REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install
1 Remove cylinder head (1).   AR01.30-P-5800MFG
2 Remove valve clearance compensating elements.   AR05.00-P-2011MFG
3 Attach cylinder head (1) to assembly device (01). NOTES Before commissioning ensure that the counterholder (02) for the SPECIAL TOOL assembly device (01) is mounted correctly on the cylinder head (1).
There is otherwise the danger that the cylinder head (1) is pressed upwards out of the SPECIAL TOOL assembly device (01) and that the combustion chamber (6) is damaged by the valves.
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the SPECIAL TOOL assembly device manufacturer (01).

5 Slide the air suspension bellows for the assembly device (01) with the lever (06). NOTES Ensure that the air suspension bellows for SPECIAL TOOL assembly device (01) always correctly stands opposite a combustion chamber and is pushed in the middle.
The valves (6) will otherwise be damaged.

6 Connect compressed-air hose to the assembly device (01) and open compressed air valve. IMPORTANT The SPECIAL TOOL assembly device (01) air suspension bellows press on the valve disks in the combustion chamber.
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the SPECIAL TOOL assembly device manufacturer (01).

7 Compress valve spring (3) with assembly lever (03).
8 Remove valve keepers (4). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that the valve keepers (4) are reliably seated.

9 Remove upper valve spring retainer (2), lower valve spring retainer (7) and valve spring (3). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not replace one valve spring (3) individually. If one valve spring is defective (3) replace all valve springs (3).
10 Use pliers (07) to remove valve stem seal (5). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Oil valve stem seals (5) and press on with a SPECIAL TOOL drift (08). Install valve stem seals (5) with a brown seal on the exhaust side and those with a green seal on the intake side. AR05.30-P-3501MFG

INSPECT Check
11 Check valve stems for formation of burrs and pitting. If ridging is detected on the valve stems,

Deburr valve stems.
If the valve stems show signs of pitting,

Replace valves (6).

12 Check top valve spring retainers (2) and bottom valve spring retainers (7) for score marks, cracks, and pitting. If there are problems,

Replace upper valve spring retainers (2) and lower valve spring retainers (7).

13 Install in the reverse order.
INSPECT Check
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
14 Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
