The following special tool is required:
parallel gauge (168 589 03 21 00).
Commercially available devices/tools
Digital depth gauge (01)
A digital depth gauge (01) is required to determine the retaining ring (43) (adjusting ring).
- Thoroughly clean contact surfaces on grooved ball bearing (44) and coupling housing (27K).
Check for absolute cleanliness. Measurement errors occur otherwise. These will result in damage to the transmission.
Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper. Otherwise, the face and contact surfaces will be damaged.
- Place deep-groove ball bearing (44) of hollow shaft on parallel gauges (02).
- Move the digital depth gauge (01) to the zero position (x) from the storage area to the bearing groove on the grooved ball bearing (44).
- Measure from the bearing surface on the grooved ball bearing (44) to the parallel gauge (02) and note down bearing value (A).
Measure at three positions and use the bearing values (A) to calculate the mean value, this is then required for further calculation.
Example illustration
- Measure from the bearing seat in the coupling housing (27K) on the retaining ring (43) and move the digital depth gauge (01) to the zero position (z).
During the measurement, hold the retaining ring (43) upwards using a suitable tool.
- Measure from bearing seat in coupling housing (27K) to lower bearing seat (42) and note down distance value (B).
Measure at three positions and use the distance values (A) to calculate the mean value, this is then required for further calculation.
- Calculate retaining ring size for adjustment of hollow shaft axial play:
Retaining ring size:
Distance value (B) in coupling housing (27K)
- Bearing value (A)
=Retaining ring size "S"
Example calculation:
17.05 mm (B)
- 15.00 mm (A)
= 2.05 mm
Retaining rings (43) are available in sizes from 1.95 mm to 2.25 mm in increments of 0.05 mm. In the above-mentioned calculation example a retaining ring (43) size of 2.05 mm is installed.
