Check Condition And Operation Of Trailer Hitch - AP31.11-P-3152B

INSPECT Check     
1 Operate trailer coupling button (1). IMPORTANT Ball neck (2) is released and swivels downward.
The "Trailer coupling swiveling" message appears on the driver's display (6).
In the instrument cluster, the trailer coupling indicator lamp (4) illuminates and the indicator lamp on the trailer coupling button (1) flashes.
If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
2 Remove ball neck (2) under bumper until it engages audibly in vertical position. IMPORTANT As soon as the ball neck (2) is locked, the message on the driver's display (6) as well as the trailer coupling indicator lamp (4) and the indicator lamp on the trailer coupling button (1) should go out.
If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
REMOVING Remove     
3 Remove cover (2b) from ball head (2a).    
INSPECT Check     
4 Check trailer socket (3), swivel mechanism and ball neck (2) for damage and corrosion. If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
CLEAN Clean     
5 Clean ball head (2a) using water and brush, and dry off using lint-free rag. NOTES Do not use any high pressure or steam cleaning equipment nor any solvent or cleaning agent.
Otherwise, the ball head (2a) may be damaged.
If corrosion is found on the ball head (2a),

Remove any corrosion using wire brush.
 
MEASURING Measure     
6 Measure diameter of ball head (2a). Minimum diameter of ball head If the minimum diameter of ball head (2a) is less than the specified value,

rectify problem.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.

  Grease     
7 Apply light coating of grease to ball head (2a). NOTES Inform the customer that when using trailers with an anti-swerve device whose effect is based on friction with the ball head (2a), the ball head (2a) must be degreased before the trailer is coupled.
Otherwise the friction between the friction linings and the ball head (2a) is reduced, and the swerving and pitch motions are no longer suppressed.
IMPORTANT Inform the customer that after using trailers with an anti-swerve device whose effect is based on friction with the ball head (2a), the ball head (2a) must be greased again.
MB multipurpose grease, 5 kg

INSTALLING Install     
8 Fit cover (2b) onto ball head (2a).    
INSPECT Check     
9 Operate trailer coupling button (1). IMPORTANT Ball neck (2) is released and swivels downward.
The "Trailer coupling swiveling" message appears on the driver's display (6).
In the instrument cluster, the trailer coupling indicator lamp (4) illuminates and the indicator lamp on the trailer coupling button (1) flashes.
If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
10 Press ball neck (2) behind bumper until it engages audibly. IMPORTANT As soon as the ball neck (2) is locked, the message on the driver's display (6) as well as the trailer coupling indicator lamp (4) and the indicator lamp on the trailer coupling button (1) should go out.
If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
