Disassemble outer constant-velocity joint
- Place match marks on joint hub (1), ball cage (2), and constant velocity joint hub (3).
- Swivel constant velocity joint hub (3) of constant-velocity joint far enough until the narrow bar (arrow) points upward.
- Press the two balls (4) facing upward out of the raceways using a suitable tool.
- Swivel constant velocity joint hub (3) on opposite side until narrow bar (arrow) points upward.
- Press the two balls (4) facing upward out of the raceways using a suitable tool.
- Swivel constant velocity joint hub (3) so that the remaining balls (4) can be removed.
- Set constant velocity joint hub (3) vertically relative to ball cage (2) and remove from ball cage (2).
- Position ball cage (2) vertically relative to joint hub (1) and remove from joint hub (1).
Check outer constant-velocity joint
- Clean all parts.
- Check ball raceways of joint hub, ball cage, constant velocity joint hub, and balls for signs of wear (arrows).
If these parts exhibit major signs wear, the outer constant-velocity joint must be replaced. Smooth areas and running marks caused by the balls are not a reason to replace the outer constant-velocity joint.
- Assemble in the reverse order.
