Service intervals: 

The vehicles listed here are delivered with country-specific programmed service intervals. Only the maximum kilometer intervals in combination with oils as per the MB Specifications for Operating Fluids sheet are specified in this SI (e.g. valid for Germany).

Engine oils as per different MB Specifications for Operating Fluids (MBBeVo) sheets may be approved for a vehicle/engine combination. These do not always have the same maximum kilometer intervals. When resetting the service, this must be observed when selecting the engine oil (if available)!

Country-specific interval reductions result from the corresponding programming of the service computer (K code), these are coordinated with the markets and not considered in this SI.

These vehicles are divided up into variable and fixed intervals.

Due to the engine protection function, e.g. for engine 642.8, it can also lead to dynamic reduction of the maintenance interval for fixed service intervals. See references at the end of this document.

Oil selection in vehicle's service computer: 

For engine oils to reach the maximum service interval (starting distance), see highest kilometer specification in the tables specified below.

The confirmation is conducted in the service menu of the instrument cluster by means of the steering wheel buttons or using XENTRY Diagnostics.

Sulfur-containing fuel: 

The oil change intervals must be reduced when using sulfur-containing fuels in combination with engine oils as per Sheet 229.x1 and 229.x2.

Fuel economy (FE): 

Use engine oils with the lowest SAE viscosity class of the MB BeVO Sheet which is marked with * after the starting distance in order to reach the lowest possible fuel consumption (FE).

General example for the lowest viscosity class:

0W-40 is more fuel efficient than 5W-40 during a cold start.

0W-30 is more fuel-efficient than 5W-30 during cold start.

0W-30 is more fuel-efficient than 0W-40.

5W-30 is more fuel-efficient than 5W-40.

0W-20 is the most fuel-efficient one.

Observe approvals as per MB Specifications for Operating Fluids and viscosity classes as per column limitations in the following tables at all times! 

229.1H multigrade service engine oils - historic:

As of 01.07.2022 this sheet will be discontinued; products as per 229.3 or 229.5 can be used as an alternative.

Sheet 229.1 below is already no longer listed, as it was replaced by 229.3 and 229.5.

The content of this SI is only valid for the vehicles specified above!

The All  entry in the In Model  and Validity  column refers explicitly to vehicles that are valid for this SI!

Information on unlisted vehicle/engine combinations is available in the maintenance/care service documentation in WIS Classic. If the maintenance/care service documentation is also not available in WIS Classic, it should be requested from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center.

For non-civilian vehicles of model series 461, 463, 464, there may be different oil specifications or change intervals for the engine oil, depending on the customer special order. This can be looked up in the operator's manual or service booklet of the corresponding vehicle.

Validities of entries in validity column 

The entries listed in quotation marks in the Validity  column are assigned to the SA code for the vehicle data card in the following table, or are to be taken from the action instruction of the table.

There are specific engine oils in the MBBeVO Sheet, those that are marked with ⁹ after the starting distance are country-specific limits!

The engine-specific engine oils that are marked with ⁹ after the starting distance are only permissible in the following European countries, See "Western Europe" country code.
