The engine oil is an important design element for the function and service life of the engine. According to the requirements for the different vehicle applications, there are different MB engine oil specifications in Service Fill:

MB engine oil specifications for spark ignition engines (can also be applied in some passenger car diesel engines without diesel particulate filter):

The engine oil's essential tasks and requirements are:

Wear protection
Corrosion protection
Contribution to lowering the fuel consumption
Detergency (prevention/removal of deposits on metal surfaces)
Dispersancy (suspension of insoluble components)
Avoidance of oil sludge formation
Thermal stability/oxidation stability/nitration stability
Cooling of hot components
Shear resistance (maintaining the viscosity properties even under/after high shear loads)
Pre-ignition stability (no contribution to uncontrolled combustion → pre-ignition)
Compatibility with elastomers/metals/paints
Avoidance of foam formation
Low evaporation loss
Mixability with other engine oils/shelf life
