Commercially available devices/tools
Stationary press with suitable sleeves or pillars
Remove
- Press out the rear elastomer bearings (1) using suitable means.
- Carefully pry out upper and lower part of front elastomer bearing (2) using suitable means.
Install
- Coat elastomer bearings (1, 2) with lubricant.
- Press in the rear elastomer bearings (1) using suitable means.
The elastomer bearings (1) must be aligned as shown in the figure.
- Insert both parts of the front elastomer bearing (2) s far as possible into the bearing seat.
Rubber hammer
- Install the parts of the front elastomer bearing (2) using suitable means.
Install the steering gear only after the lubricant has volatilized.
Otherwise, the bearings may turn when being installed which leads to damage or functional impairment.
