Model all (CAR)
STAR2 and STAR3
Charge balance of driving cycle
- For trips > 5 min, the charge balance should be positive (> 0 Ah).
- The value < 0 Ah for trips > 5 min generally only occurs in the case of a particularly high state of charge (SOC).
- A high negative charge balance (of > 20 Ah) can point to critical operating conditions or a fault of the vehicle.
Internal resistance and state of charge
- The value of the internal resistance (Ri) of a battery depends on the state of charge of the battery, design of the battery, battery temperature/outside temperature and poss. connected loads.
- The SOC is the currently still available battery capacity in percent.
- Ri must thus always be evaluated in combination with the SOC.
- Value range for SOC:
- Normal range: 65-100%
- Partially charged range: 45-65%
- Poor range: < 45%
Battery temperature
- The possibilities regarding energy absorption and energy release depends on the battery temperature.
- The following influence the battery temperature:
- The outside temperatures and
- The installation location of the battery in the vehicle.
Stored data
- Resistance of ground strap/electric circuit: The resistances of the ground strap and the electric circuit depend on several variables and are of little significance on their own.
- Minimum battery voltage: The minimum battery voltage is shown by circuit 30, and describes the minimum achieved voltage for a stationary phase during a driving cycle.
- Minimum consumer voltage: The minimum consumer voltage functions similar to the battery voltage, however related to the consumers and not the battery itself.
- Maximum engine load/frequency counter: Maximum engine load and frequency counter are only active if the ECO start/stop function is used during the trip.
Function of alternator management
- For battery temperatures > 10°C and an outside temperature > 0°C, the on-board electrical system establishes a state of charge of approx. 80% (SoC) during the trip.
- In the case of fully charged batteries, the active alternator management can lead to a limited discharging, as the battery is deliberately not charged for a defined period.
- Alternator management is deactivated for SoC values < 75%, on-board electrical system problems, trailer operation or similar.
- Alternator management ACTIVE is a value that is only recorded in non-electric vehicles, and records the activity of the alternator management.
- Alternator management AVAILABLE only records the availability, and is also only recorded for non-electric vehicles.
Non-electric means: Plug-in hybrid depending on the modification year.
48 V: Start-stop regulated, constant charging will take place as of model year 2025.
Function of battery disconnect switch (BTS)
- The actions of the battery disconnect switch (BTS) are shown in the on-board electrical system diagnosis with the values circuit 30 and 30T.
- The 4 statuses of the battery disconnect switch are:
- Pre-Reset
- reset
- Pre-Open
- Open
- The two "pre-values" take place, in each case, 5 min before "Reset"/"Open", a network message that announces the "Reset"/"Open" is sent to all control units.
- The status "battery disconnect switch open" ensures the startability.
- The battery disconnect switch is operated depending on the SOC: Open is initiated at 40% SOC.
- The "Open" at 40% can only be skipped if an active customer request exists, e.g. circuit 15/15R is deliberately activated.
- If a "Reset" is carried out at a SOC > 40%, the malfunction of a control unit should in general be reset.
