General

In order to guarantee trouble-free operations on the vehicle during workshop visits, service staff must be able to prevent vehicle functions from being triggered accidentally, remotely or automatically.

In full implementation, the measures required for this purpose are pooled in the restriction of the remote functions so that the vehicle-side restriction of remote functions is sufficient for trouble-free work on the vehicle. At the same time, status messages allow the service personnel to identify at any time whether the remote functions are restricted.

The restriction of remote functions is not available in all vehicles.

Switching the restriction of remote functions and status display on/off

The restriction of remote functions is activated via the workshop menu on the instrument cluster under "Remote Functions" during the vehicle inspection and deactivated again before the vehicle is returned to the customer. Operation via XENTRY Diagnostics is not possible.

After the remote functions have been restricted, a confirmation prompt will be shown on the driver display. After an ignition cycle, the message will be shown again as long as the restriction of remote functions has not been switched off.

When the remote functions are restricted, the Mercedes me symbol will disappear from the top right of the central display.

Function overview

In the current, first expansion stage, the restriction of the remote functions severely limits the function of the telematics services and renders actuation from outside impossible. This means that the following functions in particular, for example, cannot be used:

Remote door lock and remote door unlock
Remote engine start
Programming of stationary heater/stationary ventilation
Pre-entry climate control (in plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles)
Charging settings (in plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles)
Retrieving remote status (the last state before restriction of remote functions is displayed)
Vehicle locating (the last known location before restriction of remote functions is displayed)
Remote-controlled parking
Remote control of head unit
Geographic vehicle monitoring
Visual and acoustic vehicle detection
Theft notification
Info and Service Call
Concierge service

The following functions are also available in the event of the restriction of remote functions:

Automatic emergency call (including transmission of GPS coordinates)
Manual emergency call
Remote vehicle diagnostics (request quick test)
Remote update
Internet access

Advantages

The restriction of remote functions has the following advantages:

Customers cannot track the vehicle online for the duration of the workshop visit.
Unintended function actuations from the outside, such as the locking of the vehicle or closing of windows, are prevented.
Due to the deactivation of the remote diagnostics function, fault codes that can be set during testing and repair work are not detected, meaning that no maintenance or telediagnostics offers or letters to the customer are triggered.
It is still possible to request a quick test via remote vehicle diagnostics, but the request will contain information from a time before the remote functions were restricted.
