The rate of higher-strength, ultra-high-strength and hot formed sheet steels lies at approx. 72% in the bodyshell structure of the new CLA-Class.

In addition, high-strength adhesive was increasingly used for the stable connection of the sheet-metal parts. This also increases the rigidity and improves the acoustic and vibration-related behavior of the body. With this holistic approach, the bodyshell structure represents a modern steel lightweight construction. Additional measures, such as the use of thin panel weld studs for material thicknesses under 0.7 mm, laser-welded passages, and cold-extruded pressed axle connection brackets also contribute to the weight optimization.

To ensure a high quality, a tolerance compensation has been created at the connection points of the sheet-metal parts that allows for a low-stress joining thanks to a suitable flange design. The tolerance compensation also ensures compliance with the functional dimensions. All used sheets of the painted body are galvanized, metal-active-gas welding (MAG) was dispensed with in the case of the joining methods.

The platform has a modular design for a production-appropriate realization of platform variants.
