Location 

The Vario roof control unit is located behind the passenger seat in the rear wall.

Tasks 

The Vario roof control unit actuates the Vario roof operation and opens and closes the rear side windows.

This results in the following tasks:

• Reading in of sensors and signals 
• Evaluation of input factors 
• Actuation of components 
• Transmitting signals 

Reading in of sensors and signals 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Direct line 
• Interior CAN (CAN B) 

Direct line 

The Vario roof control unit directly reads in the signals of the following components via direct lines:

• Hydraulic oil temperature sensor (A7/5b1)
• Vario roof 'Closed' limit switch (left pin) (S69)
• Rear shelf limit switch (S69/4)
• Left Vario roof locked limit switch (S69/5s1)
• Right Vario roof locked limit switch (S69/5s2)
• Vario roof 'Stowed' limit switch (S6911)
• Trunk partition closed limit switch (S69/20)
• Vario roof actuation switch (S84s1)
• Electric window lifting mechanism central operating switch (S84s2)
• Tubular frame "locked" limit switch (S118)
• Tubular frame "open" limit switch (S119)

Interior CAN 

The signals are read in by the Vario roof control unit via the interior CAN.

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors 

The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Actuation of components 

The Vario roof control unit actuates the following components via direct lines:

• Left rear power window motor (M105)
• Right rear power window motor (M106)
• Rear shelf drive electric motor (M28/18)
• Vario roof control hydraulic unit electric motor (A7/5m1) in Vario roof control hydraulic unit (A7/5)
• Vario roof solenoid valve (A7/5y1) in Vario roof control hydraulic unit
• Vario roof/power window switch group (S84) (circuit 58d)

Transmitting signals 

The signals are transmitted by the Vario roof control unit via the interior CAN.
