DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by parts conducting high voltage Do not touch parts conducting high voltages. Persons who wear electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must not  carry out any work on high-voltage on-board electrical systems. AS77.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being trapped or crushed when working on a partially open Vario roof (in stop mode) or in its closing area as a result of the Vario roof suddenly collapsing Secure Vario roof with a suitable special tool. AS77.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove paneling (2) from Vario roof front section (1) IMPORTANT For this purpose unclip clips (3) with assembly wedge.

2 Move Vario roof with Vario roof actuation switch (S84s1) to intermediate position IMPORTANT Position of C-pillar top sections vertical.
Leave ignition switched on. The Vario roof remains in this position for approx. 7 min. in the stop mode. After 7 min. the Vario roof either moves under its own weight toward the front or retracts automatically into the trunk. The stop mode can be increased by momentarily actuating the Vario roof actuation switch (S84s1) for another 7 minutes.
 
3 Secure Vario roof with supports (01, 02 SPECIAL TOOL Support Figure

4 Disconnect battery ground line Model 231
with code 412 (Glass Vario roof)

5 Disconnect electrical connector (4) from MAGIC SKY CONTROL, control unit (N53) Model 231
with code 412 (Glass Vario roof)
 
6 Mark installation position of electrical and hydraulic lines (6) as well as Bowden cables (5) on Vario roof front section (1)    
7 Expose electrical and hydraulic lines (6) on Vario roof front section (1)    
8 Remove locks (7)   AR77.33-P-3487W 
9 Remove locks (8) IMPORTANT Do not remove hydraulic cylinder (9) from locks (8). AR77.33-P-3400W 
10 Unscrew bolts (10) and remove together with threaded bushings (11) NOTES
Press bolts (10) toward center of vehicle when unscrewing.
Otherwise the side seals on the Vario roof front section (1) can be damaged.
IMPORTANT Mark installation position of threaded bushings (11).
Helper required to hold Vario roof front section (1).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe marking for installation position of threaded bushing (11). Helper required to hold Vario roof front section (1).
 
Thread locking agent, Loctite 243 (10 ml) *BR00.45-Z-1133-02A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, C-pillar to Vario roof front section *BA77.33-P-1016-01A

11 Remove supports (01, 02) SPECIAL TOOL Support Figure

12 Unscrew bolts (12), remove Vario roof front section (1) and lay down on suitable base IMPORTANT Secure two bushings each at screw-on points to secure against falling down. Helper required.
Thread locking agent, Loctite 243 (10 ml)

13 Install in the reverse order
