WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

  1. Coat measuring head (2) of oil level sensor with Apply couplant and calibrate.

    IMPORTANT Test block is included in the scope of supply of the oil level sensor.

  2. Coat sensor surface of sensor (2) with Apply couplant.
  3. Clean measuring head mount on oil pan (34).
  4. Attach measuring head (2) of oil level sensor to oil pan (34).
  5. Position oil receptacle under oil pan (34).

    IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

  6. Remove quick-release fastener (30) using SPECIAL TOOL socket wrench.
  7. Connect diagnostic unit.
  8. Start test routine.

    IMPORTANT The test is called up in the vehicle diagnosis system as follows:

    → Control units view

    → Transmission control (VGS)

    → Actuations

    → Oil level check

    → Method:

    → Select oil level check with ultrasound measuring instrument.

    → Perform appropriate test routine.

    IMPORTANT Follow work sequence in XENTRY.

  9. When oil level specified value is reached in guided test routine, compare this with actual value on oil level sensor.

    IMPORTANT With thermostat-controlled oil cooler:

    After replacing oil cooler or oil lines, heat transmission oil up to 90°C until thermostat on oil cooler opens. Then check oil level and correct if necessary!

    If oil level is OK,

    continue with operation step 12.

    If the oil level is too low,

    continue with operation step 10.1.

    If oil level is too high,

    continue with operation step 10.2.

    1. If transmission oil level is too low.

      Attach oil dispenser with SPECIAL TOOL adapter to oil pan (34) and add transmission oil.

      NOTES The oil dispenser filling pressure must not exceed 2 bar.

      Otherwise damage and leaks can occur at the transmission.

    2. If transmission oil level is too high.

      Drain transmission oil until specified value is displayed on oil level sensor.

  10. Remove oil dispenser with SPECIAL TOOL adapter from oil pan (34).

    If transmission oil level is too low.

    IMPORTANT Remove oil dispenser with SPECIAL TOOL adapter with engine running.

  11. Screw quick-release fastener (30) into oil pan (34).

    IMPORTANT Replace quick-release fastener (30).

    IMPORTANT If oil pan (34) is replaced, install included quick-release coupling (30).

  12. Remove sensor head (2) of oil level sensor from oil pan (34).
  13. Clean area surrounding quick-release fastener (30) and ultrasonic sensor mount using assembly cleaner.
  14. Switch off engine.
  15. Disconnect diagnostic device from vehicle.
