Adjust Rear Door - AR72.12-P-0650LFS

WARNING Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
INSPECT Check     
1 Check gap dimensions at rear door (1) NOTES
Always perform adjustment work on uneven gaps on corresponding upper and lower hinge leaves.
Otherwise tension and damage can occur.

    Front/rear door to roof paneling, side *BE60.00-P-1009-01BA 
    Front door to rear door *BE60.00-P-1011-01BA 
    Rear door to side section, bottom *BE60.00-P-1012-01BA 
    Front door cover to rear door cover *BE60.00-P-1013-01BA 
    SPECIAL TOOL Feeler gauge Fig 1
REMOVING Remove     
2 Glue on adhesive strips (14) and cut in center of door joint IMPORTANT Adhesive strips (14) serves as orientation when adjusting  
3 Mark installation position of lock striker (13).    
4 Unscrew bolts (12) and remove locking eye (13)    
5 Remove striker wedge (2) at bottom of rear door (1)    
6 Support rear door (1) with floor jack and suitable block of wood, position below mounting location of striker wedge (2) NOTES
Do not support rear door (1) at outer paneling Otherwise the rear door (1) can be damaged by its high dead weight.
 
  Adjust     
7 Loosen bolts (15) and bolts (16) on B-pillar    
8 Adjust gap dimensions at rear door (1) by lifting or lowering floor jack   AR60.00-P-0700-01LF
    Front/rear door to roof paneling, side *BE60.00-P-1009-01BA 
    Front door to rear door *BE60.00-P-1011-01BA 
    Rear door to side section, bottom *BE60.00-P-1012-01BA 
    Front door cover to rear door cover *BE60.00-P-1013-01BA 
    SPECIAL TOOL Feeler gauge Fig 1
9 Tighten screws (15) and screws (16) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, hinge to B-pillar *BA72.12-P-1002-01S 
10 Lower floor jack and remove    
11 Loosen bolts (17) on upper door hinge leaf (18) and adjust transition between rear door (1) and front door by moving rear door (1) IMPORTANT The contour of the front door (1) must be flush with the contour of the rear door or project by a maximum of 1 mm.  
12 Loosen bolts (19) on lower door hinge leaf (20) and adjust transition between rear door (1) and front door by moving rear door (1) IMPORTANT The contour of the front door (1) must be flush with the contour of the rear door or project by a maximum of 1 mm.  
13 Tighten screws (17) and screws (19) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, hinge to rear door *BA72.12-P-1001-01S 
14 Insert lock striker (13) and screw in bolts (12) up to stop IMPORTANT It should still be possible to adjust the lock striker (13).  
15 Adjust transition between rear door (1), rear fender and roof paneling by moving lock strike (13)    
16 Tighten screws/bolts (12) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, lock striker to C-pillar *BA72.12-P-1004-01S 
INSTALLING Install     
17 Repair paint damage to screw heads with suitable touch-up paint pen    
18 Install striker wedge (2)    
19 Position bolts on striker wedge (2)    
20 Coat striker wedge (2) with grease MB multipurpose grease, 5 kg *BR00.45-Z-1034-06A 
21 Carefully close and open rear door (1) and determine on basis of grease impression on striker wedge (2), whether height of striker wedge (2) requires correction by inserting shims. IMPORTANT The rear door (1) is supported by the striker wedge (2) so that the entire dead weight does not rest on the lock striker (13). The rear door (1) should be easy to close.
If the rear door (1) can only be closed sluggishly or not,

Correct height of striker wedge (2) by removing shims.
 
22 Tighten bolts on striker wedge (2)

Risk of injury  to skin and eyes when working with anticorrosion agents Never spray corrosion protection on flames or hot, glowing objects and keep them well away from all potential sources of ignition. Use them only in well-ventilated rooms; wear respiratory protection. AS97.00-Z-0001-01A
23 Protect rear door (1) and B-pillar in area of both hinges against corrosion, remove excessive wax Wax for engine compartment (400 ml spray can) *BR00.45-Z-1018-05A
