The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
The longitudinal member outer shell only be replaced partially depending on the damage. For this purpose the longitudinal member outer shell can be separated at the specified separating points.
Observe standard series production joining and bonded connections.

Expose spot welds on B-pillar reinforcement (4) and cut out (area N).

Mark separating point on B-pillar reinforcement (4) and cut (area P).
If B-pillar reinforcement (4) is only replaced partially.
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

- Mark separating point on longitudinal member outer shell (1) and cut (area A or B).
If longitudinal member outer shell (1) is only replaced partially.

Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Mark separating point along Y-marking (area BA).
Dimensions:
a = approx. 25 mm

- Remove outer longitudinal member shell (1).

- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched inner C-pillar sidewall.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas M).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
