  Assign specified suspension data     
1 Assign specified suspension data on-line.   AR40.20-P-0001A
    IMPORTANT To make it easier to assign the current suspension data, the specified suspension data can be assigned on-line using the vehicle identification number.  
INSPECT Check     
2 Carry out preconditions and tests for vehicle level measurement.   AR40.20-P-0260SX
3 Clean measuring points (arrows). IMPORTANT This prevents any measuring errors.  
4 Position measuring sensor (086a) on lower control arm at front left (17). NOTES The connecting cable (086b) of measuring sensor (086a) must point to vehicle center. Otherwise the measurement will be inaccurate.
IMPORTANT The measurement sensor (086a) must be positioned exactly at the measuring points (arrows).
 
5 Measure vehicle level at measuring point 1 of left front lower control arm (17) using inclinometer (086) and store measured values. Vehicle level at front axle *BE40.20-P-1001-02T 
6 Repeat operation steps 4 and 5 at measuring point 2 of right front lower control arm. Vehicle level at front axle *BE40.20-P-1001-02T 
7 Position measuring sensor (086a) on lower control arm at rear left (27). NOTES The connecting cable (086b) of measuring sensor (086a) must point to vehicle center. Otherwise the measurement will be inaccurate.
IMPORTANT The measurement sensor (086a) must be positioned exactly at the measuring points (arrows).
 
8 Measure vehicle level at measuring point 3 of lower control arm at rear left (27) using inclinometer (086) and store measured values. Vehicle level at rear axle *BE40.20-P-1001-03U 
9 Repeat operation steps 7 and 8 at measuring point 4 of right rear lower control arm. Vehicle level at rear axle *BE40.20-P-1001-03U 
10 Check maximum permissible difference in vehicle level between left and right side of vehicle. IMPORTANT The specified test tolerance applies only when checking the vehicle level but not for calibration.  
    Permissible difference in vehicle level at front axle between right and left sides of the vehicle *BE40.20-P-1002-02T 
    Permissible difference in vehicle level at rear axle between right and left sides of vehicle *BE40.20-P-1002-03U 
11 Remove front axle spring. Model 166, 292 except code 489 (AIRMATIC)
If adjustment operations on the front axle are required.

12 Remove rear axle spring. Model 166, 292 except code 489 (AIRMATIC)
If adjustment operations on the rear axle are required.
 
      AR32.20-P-0230GZ
13.1 Adjust vehicle level. If adjustment operations are required.

    Vehicle level at front axle *BE40.20-P-1001-02T 
    Vehicle level at rear axle *BE40.20-P-1001-03U 
    Vehicle level adaptation *BE40.20-P-1001-11C 
    Vehicle level adaptation *BE40.20-P-1001-12B 
    Permissible difference in vehicle level at front axle between right and left sides of the vehicle *BE40.20-P-1002-02T 
    Permissible difference in vehicle level at rear axle between right and left sides of vehicle *BE40.20-P-1002-03U 
13.2 Calibrate vehicle level using vehicle diagnosis system. Model 166, 292 with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
If adjustment operations are required.
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
    IMPORTANT The calibration values may differ from the actual specified value.  
    Vehicle level at rear axle *BE40.20-P-1001-03U 
    Vehicle level at front axle
If the vehicle level is not OK after calibration,

check level sensor and mounting of level sensor.

14 Check headlamp adjustment and correct if necessary. Only if the vehicle level was adjusted.
