General
The parking space detection function is used for simple location of suitable parking spaces. All the detected parking spaces are shown in the multimedia display. Parking space detection can be switched on and off manually.
Function requirements
- Engine in operation or drivetrain operational.
- Vehicle speed below 35 km/h.
- No anti-lock brake system (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) intervention during last 5 s.
Function
The parking space search/detection function is realized through the external distance sensors in the front bumper. These monitor the area to the left and right of the vehicle and therefore have a larger range than the other distance sensors. Basically, suitable parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle are searched for. A parking symbol (25) is displayed in the instrument cluster during parking space search/recognition.
Detected parking spaces are indicated in the instrument cluster and the multimedia display by directional arrows (26, 27). The directional arrows (26, 27) indicate on which side of the roadway suitable parking spaces have been detected. The parking space (28) and the parking direction can be selected freely in the multimedia display and the automatic parking procedure is then started. Otherwise, the parking space search continues.
Parking space detection evaluates the following function-relevant parameters for the parking space search/recognition function:
- Drive position
- Electric power steering, status
- Wheel speeds and direction of rotation
- Steering wheel angle
- ABS and ESP® status
- Trailer recognition (vehicles with trailer hitch)
