REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Detach ground line from battery   AR54.10-P-0003GZ
2 Drain fuel tank (1) IMPORTANT Only the right chamber can be emptied on the installed fuel tank (1). AR47.10-P-4001GQ 
3 Remove left and right rear side underfloor panelings and left and right front side underfloor paneling   AR61.30-P-1001GQ
4 Remove propeller shaft   AR41.10-P-0050GQ
5.1 Separate electrical connections (2) Model 166 with engine 157, 276, 278 Model 292 with engine 157, 276, 278  
5.2 Disconnect electrical connection (2) Model 166 with engine 642, 651
Model 292 with engine 642
IMPORTANT Vehicles with a diesel engine: only one electrical connection present.
 
6 Unlock and detach filler neck (3) on fuel tank (1) IMPORTANT Collect escaping fuel in a suitable container.  
7.1 Disconnect and close off fuel line (4) Model 166 with engine 157, 276, 278

7.2 Disconnect fuel lines (4) feed line and return flow and plug Model 166 with engine 642, 651

8 Detach line (5a) at fuel tank (1) Model 166, 292 with engine 157, 276, 278  
9 Release and disconnect electrical line to stationary heater fuel pump (Y23) Model 166 with engine 157, 276, 278, 642, 651 with code 228 (Auxiliary heater)

10 Detach line (6) at hose (7), plug and unclip from bracket (6a) Model 166 with engine 157, 276, 278, 642, 651 with code 228 (Auxiliary heater)

NOTES Do not use any pointed or sharp-edged tools to remove the line (6).
Otherwise line (6) or hose (7) are damaged.
INSTALLATION NOTES Replace the clamp (7a). Do not use screw clamps or spring bracket clamps. Otherwise leakage may occur.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check condition of hose (7) and check for damage, replace if necessary.
IMPORTANT Collect escaping fuel. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug

11 Unfasten nuts of the high-voltage battery coolant lines holder on fuel tank (1) Model 166.063 with engine 276.8  
12 Lift high-voltage battery coolant lines from fuel tank holder (1) and place to one side Model 166.063 with engine 276.8

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS
Support fuel tank (1) using a lifting platform 000 588 03 62 00 Lifting platform   WS01.00-P-0091A
14 Remove nut (1m) and screw/bolts (1s) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, fuel tank to undercarriage *BA47.10-P-1001-01J 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, fuel tank to undercarriage *BA47.10-P-1002-01J 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, tensioning strap for fuel tank to underfloor *BA47.10-P-1003-01J 
15 Lower fuel tank (1) slightly    
16 Detach lines (5b) on fuel tank (1) Model 166 with engine 642, 651
Model 292 with engine 642
IMPORTANT Release (arrow), see picture.
 
17 Lower fuel tank (1)    
18 Remove transfer unit When replacing the fuel tank (1). AR47.10-P-4100-02GQ 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Ring nut to fuel tank *BA47.10-P-1004-01J 
    SPECIAL TOOL Prong wrench *164589010700
19 Remove fuel pump When replacing the fuel tank (1). Model 166 with engine 651

20 Install in the reverse order    
21 Perform basic programming Model 166 with engine 157, 276, 278, 642, 651

INSPECT Check     
22 Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.
Carry out engine test run and check fuel system for leaktightness
Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
