Passenger-Side Seat Occupied Recognition Function - GF91.60-P-1100GRU

MODEL 166 up to model year 2016 with CODE U10 (Front passenger seat with weight sensor)

Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 via chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) to the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10).

Passenger-side seat occupied recognition, general

The passenger-side seat occupied recognition detects whether the front passenger seat is occupied.

The passenger-side seat occupied recognition function includes the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for seat occupancy recognition

Occupation of the front passenger seat by a person or a child seat is determined by the weight, which is applied to the front passenger seat. For this purpose, the Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit (N110) measures the pressure of a seat mat filled with silicone. The weight sensing system (WSS) control unit performs a weight classification of the applied weight and sends the determined information via seat occupancy LIN (LIN E2) to the supplemental restraint system control unit.

The following conditions are defined depending on the weight classification:

Function sequence for outputting status and fault messages

The automatic child seat recognition airbag off indicator lamp (N72/1e1) in the upper control panel control unit (N72/1) is switched on under the following conditions:

The supplemental restraint system control unit transmits the request for switching on the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp via chassis CAN 1, the electronic ignition lock control unit, the interior CAN (CAN B), the SAM control unit (N10) and the battery sensor LIN (LIN B15) to the upper control panel control unit, which then actuates the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp accordingly.

IMPORTANT If the weight sensing system (WSS) control unit detects that the front passenger seat is occupied by a person, the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp is not switched on. In vehicles as of 02.06.2014, the automatic child seat recognition airbag ON indicator lamp (N72/1e4) remains switched on in this case.

Fault messages:

If faults or malfunctions of the seat occupied recognition occur, the following indicator lamps are switched on:

A fault code is also stored in the supplemental restraint system control unit and a correspondent message is shown on the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster. The request to display a corresponding message is sent by the supplemental restraint system control unit via chassis CAN 1, electronic ignition lock control unit and chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) to the instrument cluster.
