Notes On Removal/Installation Of Bonded Elements Of Panoramic Roof - AH77.21-P-0001-01A
Model all (CAR, smart)
Notes on handling adhesive material and on the handling procedure involving cutting and repair work on the panoramic roof
The side window on the driver door must be open during the adhesive material's curing time.
Otherwise, the relevant element of the panoramic roof may be pushed outward by the resulting air pressure when the doors are closed.
If new parts are installed during body repair in the area of the panoramic roof body flange, mask off the bonding surfaces before painting.
Otherwise the strength of the adhesive connection can be impaired and proper adhesion of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Do not use the body outer skin for support when working on the roof. Otherwise, the body could be damaged.
Mask off the roof cutout at the side roof paneling and at the front and rear window using suitable duct tape.
Otherwise there is a risk of damaging the vehicle paintwork when cutting out.
The object and room temperature should be min. 15°C and should not exceed 35°C.
Otherwise the strength of the adhesive connection can be impaired and proper adhesion of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Only use material from repair kit approved for corresponding vehicle and always observe enclosed processing instructions. Otherwise the strength of the adhesive connection can be impaired and proper adhesion of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Do not touch bonding surfaces with bare fingers and they should be free of dust, oil, grease, wax and other adhesive components or dirt residues.
Otherwise the strength of the adhesive connection can be impaired and proper adhesion of the adhesive material is not ensured.
The primer must flash off for at least 15 minutes.
Otherwise the adhesive effect of the adhesive material will be impaired.
Apply adhesive only after primer has completely cured.
Otherwise the strength of the adhesive connection can be impaired and proper adhesion of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Ensure that adhesive material is applied only to present adhesive beads, which have been cut down, or to the original factory primer or repair primer approved by Daimler.
Otherwise the strength of the adhesive connection can be impaired and proper adhesion of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Apply adhesive material within a period of 25 minutes and then place the panoramic roof elements onto the body flange within a period of 15 minutes.
Otherwise the strength of the adhesive connection can be impaired and proper adhesion of the adhesive material is not ensured.
Before starting work, all components, materials and tools must be prepared for installation.
Otherwise the adhesive force of the adhesive material starts to decrease.
Observe following information at all times.
Otherwise, reliable and correct bonding cannot be assured because it is not possible.
- Use the repair kit specified in the EPC.
- Note all the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
- The single-component cold adhesive can be processed when cold, it does not need to be pre-heated.
- The two-component cold adhesive can be processed when warm, it needs to be pre-heated. Preheating is performed using a commercially available warm-up device.
- The activator (cleaner) may only be applied to the black bonding surface. If activator is applied to transparent areas, wipe off immediately.
- Shake primer before use for at least 1 min.
- The primer may not be applied to the old adhesive bead residue. Primer may only be applied to a new window or a bodyshell surface not yet primed.
- Apply single thin coating of primer all-over, without extended wiping.
- If the repair area has been primed, apply the primer only after the primer has dried.
- One cartridge of single-component adhesive is sufficient for installation of a window.
To press the remaining quantity of adhesive material out of the cartridge, it may be necessary to use an adapter.
- The application nozzle included must be used and it may not be modified. The application nozzle generates a functional adhesive bead at a height of approx. 13 mm.
- The width of the adhesive bead must be at least two thirds of the width of the adhesive bead markings on the component parts to be bonded.
Working on panoramic roof
- The use of approved materials and tools is absolutely necessary for proper repair because the material characteristics of the approved products influence the work results and labor times.
- Adhesive bonds are a part of the unibody construction. Always exercise particular care when performing work on bonded elements of the panoramic roof.
- Following any fire damage, check the bondings and replace if required, as strong heat can damage the adhesive.
- Clean paint damages in the area of damaged points and treat with anticorrosion agents, and apply paint on the repair point (see the appropriate guidelines for paint repair).
- Following cleaning and priming, do not touch bonding surfaces.
- Any remaining adhesive may only be cut to the required residual height of approx. 1 up to 2mm just before installation.
- Before the adhesive is applied to painted sheet metal, the gluing point must be cleaned and treated with a primer (bonding agent).
- The vehicle may only be moved again after curing of the adhesive (idle time) (observe manufacturer's specifications for adhesive).
- Protect entire vehicle interior against soiling.
