| 1 | Remove center liftgate paneling | AR72.20-P-6618LWS | |
| 2 | Disconnect electrical connector (1) | ||
| 3 | Detach grommet (2) from liftgate (3) | ||
| 4 | Unclip electrical wiring harness (4) and guide outward out of liftgate (3) | ||
| 5 | Secure liftgate (3) with support | Fig 1 | |
| 6 | Lift lower retainer (5) with a suitable screwdriver, and remove trunk lid/liftgate control drive unit (M51/3) from D-pillar | Do not remove lower retainer (5). Otherwise the tension on the lower retainer (5) can be lost. |

| 7 | Lift upper retainer (6) with a suitable screwdriver, detach trunk lid/liftgate control drive unit (M51/3) from liftgate (3) and remove | Do not remove upper retainer (6). Otherwise the tension on the upper retainer (6) can be lost. |

| 8 | Remove trunk lid/liftgate control drive unit (M51/3) | ||
| 9 | Install in the reverse order | ||
| 10 | Normalize trunk lid/liftgate control drive unit (M51/3) with diagnostic system | When replacing trunk lid/liftgate control drive unit (M51/3). | |
