DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. Do not perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained. AS83.00-Z-0001-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Drain air conditioning system MODEL 176, 246
with CODE 2U8 (Refrigerant R-1234yf)

2 Remove fuel injection system control unit and place to one side MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242, 246.2 with
ENGINE 270

3 Remove engine air intake duct (2)    
4 Remove upper radiator bracket (1)    
5 Remove front bumper MODEL 156 AR88.20-P-2000NKX

6 Remove charge air cooler MODEL 117, 246 with ENGINE 270, 651
MODEL 156 with ENGINE 270, 651
MODEL 176 with ENGINE 270, 607, 651

7 Release catch (arrow A) and remove right air duct segment (3) in direction of arrow toward right    
8 Release catch (arrow B) and remove left air duct segment (4) in direction of arrow toward front    
9 Tilt condenser (5) with radiator in direction of engine and guide out toward top from radiator supports (7) MODEL 117, 176, 242, 246
IMPORTANT Secure condenser (5) with radiator against falling down.
 
10 Release catch of radiator bracket (6) using a screwdriver and remove radiator bracket (6) toward inside MODEL 156  
11 Release condenser (5) at catches (arrow C); press together catch (arrow C) in direction of arrow to do so MODEL 156  
12 Move condenser (5) at bottom out of guides and pull forward slightly MODEL 156
IMPORTANT Secure condenser (5) with radiator against falling down.
 
13 Remove drier cap (8)    
14 Remove circlip (9)    
15 Screw screw/bolt M12 (10) into drier head (11) and pull out drier head (11)    
16 Use pair of pliers to pull out drier module bracket (16)    
17 Remove drier module riser line (12) together with drier module filter housing (15) IMPORTANT To do so, insert wire (14) along drier module riser line (12) to drier module filter housing (15) and hook in there.
The wire (14) has to be shop-made. One end is to be bent into the shape of a hook here.
 
INSTALLING Install     
18 Install drier module riser line (12) together with drier module filter housing (15) IMPORTANT Check packaging of new desiccant bag (13) for damage, dispose of new desiccant bag (13) if necessary.
Mount new desiccant bag (13) onto drier module riser line (12).
 
19 Install drier module bracket (16)    
20 Install drier head (11)    
21 Install retaining ring (9)    
22 Screw in drier cap (8) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Plug to condenser *BA83.30-P-1016-01G 
23 Install condenser (5) with radiator into radiator support (7)    
24 Install left air duct segment (4) and right air duct segment (3)    
25 Install charge air cooler MODEL 117, 246 with ENGINE 270, 651
MODEL 156 with ENGINE 270, 651
MODEL 176 with ENGINE 270, 607, 651
MODEL 242 with ENGINE 270

26 Install front bumper MODEL 156 AR88.20-P-2000NKX

27 Mount upper radiator bracket (1)    
28 Mount engine air intake duct (2)    
29 Attach fuel injection system control unit MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242, 246.2 with ENGINE 270
