1. Insert adjustment device into axle housing.
2. Measure gap between adjustment device and axle housing using a feeler gauge.
3. Determining distance dimension.

   The gap dimension is arrived at by the addition of 163.8 mm (dimension of adjustment device) and the thickness of the pad of the feeler gauge, with the gap thickness specified in work step 2 between the adjustment device and axle housing.

4. Place the differential assembly and shims installed previously on a level plate.
5. Measure installed dimension of differential assembly from spacer washer to spacer washer.
6. Adjust installed dimension of differential assembly by exchanging spacer washers.

The installation dimension is made up of the values determined under work step 3 plus approx 0 16 mm The installed dimension must be 0 16 mm greater than the gap dimension in order to achieve a preload of the bearings Spacer washers are available in thicknesses of 4 90 to 6 08 mm in graduations of 0 02 mm.
