Determining Thickness Of Shims For Differential On Rear Axle Housing - AR35.30-P-4815-03F

1. Insert adjustment device into axle housing.

   For a reinforced axle a ring must also be used.

2. Measure gap between adjustment device and axle housing using a feeler gauge .
3. Determining distance dimension.

   The distance dimension results from the addition of 163.8 mm (dimension of adjustment device plus the thickness of the feeler gauge.

4. Place the differential assembly and shims installed previously on a level plate.
5. Measure installation dimension of shim relative to shim.
6. Adjust installation dimension by replacement of spacer washers.

   The installation dimension is made up of the values determined under work step 3 plus approx. 0.16 mm. The installation dimension must be slightly larger than the distance in order to achieve a bearing preload. Spacer washers are available in thicknesses of 4.90 to 6.08 mm in graduations of 0.02 mm.
