	Remove/install

1	Move brake pads (10) of the rear axle into assembly position	Do not depress the service brake during "Move to assembly position". Otherwise, the spindle in the brake caliper (3) can be damaged. The engine hood must be closed. Exit assembly position of the rear axle brake pads (10).	AR42.10-P-1700-02W
2	Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key (A8/1) or KEYLESS-GO start/stop button (S2/3) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73)	KEYLESS-GO (S2/3) start/stop button only on vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go.
3	Open engine hood and raise to vertical position
4	Remove cover above brake fluid expansion reservoir
	Clean
5	Clean the area around the cap of the brake fluid reservoir	Assembly cleaner	*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A
6	Unscrew cap of brake fluid reservoir and extract some brake fluid	In order to prevent the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when pressing back the brake pistons.
7	Remove rear wheels		AP40.10-P-4050EW
8	Disconnect right rear brake wear sensor electrical connector (S10/4x1) from right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4)	When removing the brake pads (10) on the right side of vehicle
9	Remove bolt (1) on lower guide pin (5)	Counterhold lower guide pin (5). Guide pin to brake caliper support	*BA42.10-P-1004-12J
10	Swivel brake caliper (3) upwards	Do not tension or kink brake hose (6). Attach brake caliper (3) to the vehicle free of tension to relieve the brake hose (6) and the electrical line (7). Otherwise the brake hose (6) and the electrical line (7) can be damaged. Guide the right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4) through the opening of the brake caliper (3). Do not detach brake hose (6).
11	Remove brake pads (10) from the brake caliper support (2)	Only sets of brake pads (10) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed. Do not apply any brake pastes or lubricants to brake pads (10) and brake calipers (3)!
12	Remove rear right brake wear sensor (S10/4) from brake pad (10)	Only when replacing the brake pads (10). Replace defective right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4).
13	Remove spring steel sheets (11) from brake caliper support (2)
	Checking, measuring
14	Check brake pads (10) for condition and measure wear	Replace brake pads (10) if necessary.	AP42.10-P-4253A
15	Check condition of brake disk (9) and gauge degree of wear

16	Check brake caliper (3) and dust boot (13) on brake piston for damage	Replace brake caliper (3) if damaged: ↓ Remove/install rear axle brake caliper	AR42.10-P-0080RK
17	Check boots (12) for damage and correct seat	Replace brake caliper support (2) if damaged, see: ↓ Remove/install rear axle brake caliper	AR42.10-P-0080RK
18	Check guide pin (5) for ease of movement	Replace brake caliper support (2) if damaged, see: ↓ Remove/install rear axle brake caliper	AR42.10-P-0080RK
19	Press back brake piston using pusher tool (01)	If brake piston is sluggish, replace brake caliper (3): Resetting device	Figure

	Clean
20	Clean contact surfaces of the brake pads (10) on the brake caliper (3) and brake caliper support (2) with a rag	Do not damage dust boot (13) on the brake piston. Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects. Otherwise the brake caliper (3) or the brake caliper support (2) can be damaged. Assembly cleaner	*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A
21	Install in the reverse order
	Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work.	Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.	AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
22	Operate the brake pedal several times until the brake pads (10) make contact with the brake disks (9)	Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
23	Check fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir, correct if necessary		AP42.10-P-4210V
24	Carry out brake test on the test stand		AP42.00-P-4290BA
