DANGER Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid.
Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid
Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

IMPORTANT Notes on installing brake wear indicator contact sensors   AH42.10-P-0003-01CW
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove cover above brake fluid expansion reservoir    
2 Clean area around cap on expansion reservoir for brake fluid    
3 Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.

REFER TO MAINTENANCE
Detach front complete wheels   AP40.10-P-4050EW
5 Detach electrical connection for front right brake wear sensor (S10/2x1) for front right brake wear sensor (S10/2)    
6 Remove bolt (6) and then remove tie rod (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, support to anti-rattle spring *BA42.10-P-1003-10U 
7 Knock out retaining pins (1) using punch and remove retaining spring (2) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining pins (1) if necessary. Hammer in retaining pins (1) up to the end stop. Check retaining spring (2) is correctly seated.  
8 Pull brake linings (3) out of brake caliper (4) Notes on installation position of brake linings   AH42.10-P-1610-01A
IMPORTANT   INSTALLATION NOTES
Do not apply any brake paste or lubricants to brake pads (3) and brake calipers (4).
Malfunctions may occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT Pry out seized brake linings (3) using a lever.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only sets of brake linings (3) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
Make sure that the brake linings (3) are installed at the correct position.

INSPECT Check

REFER TO MAINTENANCE
Check brake linings (3) for wear and that they are in good condition IMPORTANT Replace the brake linings (3) if necessary. AP42.10-P-4253A 
10 Check brake disks (5) for wear and condition MODEL 231.457/465/473/474/479 without CODE B07 (Ceramic brake system) Replace brake disks (5) if they are damaged or worn; see:

Remove/install brake disc
AP42.10-P-4258RK 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AR42.10-P-0220RK 
11 Check brake caliper (4) and dust boots of brake piston for leaktightness and damage Replace brake caliper (4) if necessary; see:

Remove/install front axle brake caliper
AR42.10-P-0070RK 
12 Press back brake piston using resetting device IMPORTANT Secure remaining brake pistons to prevent them slipping out.

    If brake pistons are sluggish, replace brake caliper (4); see:

Remove/install front axle brake caliper

CLEAN Clean     
13 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (3) on brake caliper (4) NOTES Do not damage the brake piston dust boots. Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects. Otherwise the brake caliper (4) must be replaced.
Assembly cleaner
*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
14 Pull right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) out of pad backing plate of brake lining (3) Only when replacing the brake linings (3) or if the right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) is defective.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace the defective right front brake wear sensor (S10/2).
 
15 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER

Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work.
Depress brake pedal several times until brake linings (3) lie against brake disks (5)
Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.
IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.

Check fluid level in brake fluid reservoir, and correct if necessary   AP42.10-P-4210V

Carry out brake test on the test stand   AP42.00-P-4290BA
