DANGER Risk of death  when touching components on vehicles with high-voltage on-board electrical system Do not touch components and open lines of the high-voltage on-board electrical system. Persons who wear electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers), must not carry out any work on high-voltage on-board electrical systems. AS54.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Put transmission (1) in position "N" and release parking brake    
2 Perform disable for the high-voltage on-board electrical system   AR54.10-P-1150LF
3 Remove engine vacuum duct    
4 Detach ground line for on-board electrical system battery on left rear longitudinal member   AR54.10-P-0003LF
5 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift    
6 Remove lower engine compartment paneling and the holder under the transmission (1)   AR61.20-P-1105LF
7 Detach ground line (2) from transmission (1) and unhook    
8 Remove heat shield (3)   AR27.40-P-0700-01LF
9 Unlock electrical connector (4) at electrohydraulic controller unit, disconnect and unclip line from transmission (1)    
10 Remove left and right catalytic converter (158) from exhaust manifold   AR49.10-P-7100LF
11 Remove left and right brackets (5)   AR49.10-P-7100LF
12 Detach oil lines (6) from transmission (1) and oil pan IMPORTANT Seal the oil lines (6) using suitable SPECIAL TOOL stop plugs. AR27.55-P-0600LFH

13 Support and lash down transmission (1)    
14 Remove rear engine cross member with rear engine mount NOTES
Never use impact wrench or compressed air tools for screwing in or unscrewing the bolts! Otherwise the threads can get damaged.

15 Use color to mark front flexible coupling relative to output flange and drive shaft and remove   AR41.10-P-0040-01LF
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS     WF58.50-P-4110-01A
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, flex disk to transmission or front propeller shaft *BA41.10-P-1001-01J 
16 Carefully lower transmission (1) slightly    
17 Take electrical line of left oxygen sensor downstream of catalytic converter out of bracket (7) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Make sure that the electrical line is routed and secured correctly.  
18 Detach bracket (7) from transmission (1)    
19 Disconnect electrical connector from electrical machine temperature sensor (A79/1b1)    
20 Detach electrical line from transmission (1) (arrows)    
21 Remove screw/bolt (8) and detach high-voltage electrical line (28) from transmission (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, holder for electrical lines to transmission housing *BA27.10-P-1027-04G 
22 Detach bracket (9) from transmission (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, holder for electrical lines to transmission housing *BA27.10-P-1027-04G 
23 Remove bolt (10a) and remove cover (10) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, hoop guard to transmission *BA08.10-P-1002-01F 
24 Remove bolt (11a) from bracket (11) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, 3-phase high-voltage line to electric machine housing *BA08.10-P-1003-01F 
25 Detach high-voltage plug (29a) of 3-phase high-voltage lines (29) from electrical machine and place at right, next to the transmission (1) NOTES
Cover up high voltage plug (29) and handle carefully.
Otherwise the high voltage on-board electrical system may be damaged.
IMPORTANT The bolt for the high-voltage connector (29a) acts as an extraction and insertion aid, and it is integrated into the high-voltage connector (29a).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, 3-phase high-voltage line coupling connector to electric machine housing

26 Detach starter from transmission (1) MODEL 222 with ENGINE 276.8 with TRANSMISSION 724.2 AR15.30-P-7100LFA
    MODEL 222 with ENGINE 276.9 with TRANSMISSION 724.2
NOTES
Secure starter against falling. Otherwise damage will occur.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, starter to crankcase *BA15.30-P-1003-01J 
27 Unscrew bolts (1a) and remove transmission (1) from below INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply some multi-purpose paste to the collar and gearing of the transmission input shaft (12).  
    Multi-purpose paste *BR00.45-Z-1009-06A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut, transmission to engine *BA27.10-P-1001-04G 
28 Install in the reverse order    
29 Perform transmission adaptation After replacement or repair of transmission (1)  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
30 Carry out sensor rotor adaptation After replacing the transmission (1) or the electrical machine rotor position sensor or the electrical machine  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
INSPECT Check     
31 Check oil level in transmission (1) and correct   AR27.00-P-0270EH 
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
32 Test run engine and check transmission (1) for leaktightness and proper operation
