Overview

This document contains information on:

General

The level sensors (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4) record the current vehicle level. This information is required for controlling the automatic headlamp range control (HRA), among other things.

Function

The upward and downward movements of the lower transverse control arms are transferred through one linkage to the levers of the level sensors (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4). These changes in angle of the levers generate different voltages in the level sensors (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4). These are sent as permanent signals, e.g. to the adaptive damping system (ADS) control unit or to the suspension and damping system control unit.

The signals from the level sensors (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4) are used to calculate the vehicle level and are therefore used to calculate the current damper stage (vehicles with adjustable damping or with air suspension) or for automatic headlamp range control (LED headlamps).

Level sensors (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4) are installed on all wheel suspensions on vehicles with adjustable damping or air suspension.

On vehicles with LED headlamps and without adjustable damping or air suspension, level sensors (1.1 and 1.3 or 1.2 and 1.4) are installed on one side at the front and rear. Depending on the vehicle involved, this can be the left or the right side.

On vehicles with rear axle level control, the level sensors (1.3, 1.4) are installed on the wheel suspensions of the rear axle.
