General
The mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) draws in and compresses the refrigerant. It is driven by the engine via the belt drive.
Regulation of the mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) is carried out steplessly by the climate control controller.
The mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) is mounted on the engine and integrated in the belt drive.
Function requirements
- Circuit 30t on.
- Climate control switched on.
- Mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) switched on (A/C function).
- Engine running.

Function
The climate control controller regulates the output of the mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) steplessly up to 100% via a regulation valve.
Two variants are currently used:
- Mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) with magnetic clutch:
The control for climate control can completely disconnect the force flux of the belt drive through a magnetic clutch. This in turn enables additional fuel savings to be made.
The magnetic clutch is a frictional clutch that has a solenoid (6) on the drive side which is supplied with power via sliding contacts. Depending on the applied electrical voltage, a different magnetic field acts on the sliding clutch pressure plate (7) on the driven side. The clutch plate is pinched and transfers the rotary motion. The magnetic clutch connects the overrunning clutch of the drive disk to the drive shaft (5) of the mechanical refrigerant compressor (1). If the clutch is activated by adding current, the drive disk and drive shaft (5) engage a fixed connection. The drive belt transfers the torque from the engine to the mechanical refrigerant compressor (1), whereby the cooling process is started. The magnetic clutch is held closed by current. As soon as the power is switched off, an integrated spring releases the clutch again. The belt pulley (2) then also turns but it no longer has a fixed connection to the drive shaft (5) of the mechanical refrigerant compressor (1).
- Mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) without magnetic clutch:
This mechanical refrigerant compressor (1) is equipped with torque limitation. An excessively high load causes the limiter to break. This ensures continuous function of the belt drive, e.g. in the event of a seized mechanical refrigerant compressor (1).
