Multifunction Camera, Component Description - GF54.21-P-3300RR
Model 190
With Code 22P (Lane tracking package)
Model 190
With Code 513 (Traffic Sign Assist)
Model 190
With Code 608 (Adaptive Highbeam Assist)
Location
The multifunction camera is located at the top on the windshield behind a cover.
Task
The multifunction camera records information on the area surrounding the front of the vehicle, e.g. ambient brightness and objects. These are evaluated by the integrated control unit, and used for implementing various functions.
The multifunction camera has the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Controlling functions
- Actuation of components
- Transmission of signals and requests
Reading in of signals
The multifunction camera also reads in the following signals over the chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2):
- Circuit 15 status
- Engine running or drive train operational
- Wheel speed
- Vehicle speed
- Vehicle lateral acceleration
- Vehicle longitudinal acceleration
- Vehicle level (with CODE 608 (Adaptive Highbeam Assist))
- Information, that indicates driver activities, e.g. turn signaling, accelerating, braking, steering
- Information indicating possible distraction of the driver, such as, e.g. operation of the audio system, different comfort functions (interior illumination, steering column adjustment) (with CODE P64 (Memory package))) and different menu levels in the instrument cluster (A1)
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.
Controlling functions
The multifunction camera controls the following functions:
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Traffic Sign Assist (with CODE 513 (Traffic Sign Assist))
- High beams assistant (with CODE 608 (Adaptive Highbeam Assist))
Actuation of components
To avoid any fogging in the multifunction camera's field of view the front window is heated in this area by the auxiliary heater heating element (R50). The auxiliary heater heating element is directly actuated by the multifunction camera.
Transmission of signals and requests
The multifunction steering wheel also sends the following status information and requests over the chassis CAN 2:
- Ambient brightness
- Actuate steering wheel vibration motor (M99) (with CODE 22P (Lane package))
- Perform optical headlamp range adjustment (with CODE 608 (Adaptive Highbeam Assist))
- Actuate adaptive high beams (with CODE 608 (Adaptive Highbeam Assist))
- Display traffic sign (with CODE 513 (Traffic Sign Assist))
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Body
The multifunction camera consists of the following main components:
- Camera head
- Electronic analysis system (control unit)
- Auxiliary heater heating element
After replacement of a multifunction camera or the windshield the multifunction camera has to be recalibrated.
Variants
- Multifunction camera with horizontal detection angle of ∠ = 34° (except CODE 513 (Traffic Sign Assist))
- Multifunction camera with horizontal detection angle of ∠ = 45° (with CODE 513 (Traffic Sign Assist))
