Location

The advanced sound system amplifier control unit is located in the trunk on the right sidewall.

Tasks

The advanced sound system amplifier control unit receives electrical signals, amplifies and optimizes them, and then sends the processed signals for output to the speaker system.

The Advanced sound system amplifier control unit receives the following signals:

Voltage supply
Visual and electrical wake-up signal
Muting of audio sources (mute function), of:
- Emergency call system control unit (N123/4) (with CODE 348 (Emergency call/assist system))
- Telematics services communications module (N112/1) (with code 06U (Mercedes connect me basic services) or code 350 (eCall Europe emergency call system))
- HERMES control unit (N112/9) (with code 360 (HERMES UMTS) or code 362 (HERMES LTE))
Control and audio signals over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) from the head unit (A26/17)
Audio signals via MOST from the tuner unit (A90/4) (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio) or with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)) up to 30.11.2018)
Audio signals via MOST from the TV tuner (N143) (with code 865 (TV tuner) as of 01.12.2018)
With code 598 (Gasoline particulate filter (OPF) with sensor system): Control signals for optimization of engine and exhaust system sound in the vehicle interior, over the CAN interface from the drive CAN (CAN C1), e.g. engine speed and engine load from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)

The Advanced Sound System amplifier control unit optimizes and amplifies the signals or it evaluates them:

Optimization of input signals through digital signal processing and high-quality sound optimization algorithms (e.g. Surround Sound, Easy Listening, Live, 3D Sound)
Support of stereo and multichannel entertainment channels as well as announcement channels (e.g. for voice output in voice control system (with CODE 531 (COMAND APS)) or navigation instructions)
Amplifying of the input signals and assignment of the output to the speakers
With code 598 (Gasoline particulate filter (OPF) with sensor system): Optimization of engine and exhaust system sound in the vehicle interior through generation of simulated sound contributions through the speaker system

The advanced sound system amplifier control unit sends the processed signals to the following components:

Right front footwell woofer (H4/10)
Center instrument panel midrange speaker (H4/27)
Center instrument panel tweeter (H4/76)
Left instrument panel tweeter (H4/33)
Right instrument panel tweeter (H4/34)
Left rear midrange speaker for surround sound system (H4/62)
Right rear midrange speaker for surround sound system (H4/63)
Left door midrange speaker (H4/86)
Right door midrange speaker (H4/87)
Woofer amplifier (N40/12)

The rear woofer (H4/29) is actuated through the woofer amplifier.
