Location 

The turn rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration sensor is located centrally on the transmission tunnel.

Task 

The yaw rate sensor for lateral and longitudinal acceleration measures the turn rate around the vertical axis. The integrated lateral acceleration sensor (AY sensor) measures the lateral acceleration. The integrated longitudinal acceleration sensor (Ax sensor) detects longitudinal inclination.

The signals are read in by the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) via dynamics CAN (CAN H).

Function 

The yaw rate sensor and the acceleration sensor are integrated in the turn rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration sensor. The movement of the vehicle causes the vibrating masses to vibrate horizontally in opposite directions. If a rotary motion is superimposed onto this linear movement as a result of the rotary movement of the vehicle (e.g. skidding), a force (Coriolis force) acts on the vibrating mass.

The electronic analysis system calculates the corresponding vehicle behavior from the changes in the vibration states. Die electronic analysis system controls the inert bodies such that they are kept in their initial position. The voltage values required in operation for maintaining this design position are a measure for the respective acceleration occurring.
