Electric Parking Brake, Basic Function - GF42.20-P-1003A

Model All (4xWD, CAR)

Overview

This document contains information on:

General

The electric parking brake (EFB) holds the vehicle stationary on uphill and downhill gradients even when the driver is absent.

It is activated manually via a control element or automatically according to the driving state.

Function requirements

Function

Combined floating brake calipers with integrated electric actuator motors are located on the rear axle.

The braking parts are held in the brake position when de-energized by a self-locking mechanical effect. The ESP® control unit actuates the left electric parking brake actuator motor and the right electric parking brake actuator motor.

When the EFB is active, the red indicator lamp lights up in the display of the instrument cluster.

When the EFB is not active, the red warning message "Risk of rolling - EFB not closed" appears in vehicles with manual transmission when the driver's door is opened.

If the red indicator lamp flashes, there is a malfunction.
