Crosswind Assist, Basic Function - GF42.45-P-1004A

Model All (4xWD, CAR)

Overview

This document contains information on:

General

Crosswind Assist supports the driver in the event of any severe crosswinds and minimizes the vehicle's yaw response and track offset using course-correcting brake applications.

Function requirements

Function

The supplemental restraint system control unit records the vehicle's movements during quickly-changing gusts of winds and transmits the signals to the Electronic Stability Program control unit.

If the Electronic Stability Program control unit detects track offset caused by strong crosswinds, it brakes the wheels on the side facing the wind. This decreases the track offset. The driver does not have to perform large steering movements in order to stay in the lane. In the instrument cluster, the indicator lamp for Crosswind Assist lights up.
