  Prepare update     
1 The activation code for the map update is available in the vehicle documentation (VeDoc).    
2 Check charge level (SOC) of high-voltage battery. Model 212.095/098/195/298 except code 494 (US version) If the SOC of the high-voltage battery is < 50 %,

recharge the high-voltage battery to a SOC of min. 75 %.

3 Open hood.    
DANGER Risk of fire/risk  of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 25 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking.
Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

5 Switch on circuit 15R.    
6 Switch on COMAND controller unit or head unit.    
7 Remove CDs or DVDs from COMAND or head unit disc slot. For update with master DVD.

8.1 Insert master DVD and update map data. Model 117, 156, 164, 166, 169, 172, 176, 190, 197, 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 221, 231, 242, 245, 246, 251, 292

For update with master DVD.
IMPORTANT Enter the activation code provided in VeDoc and start with the update.
IMPORTANT Ignore any error messages that may be displayed. The update process can take a while to complete. The progress bar indicates how much has been completed. If there are several master DVDs, follow the instructions on the display.
 
8.2 Insert master USB flash drive into front USB connection and update map data. Model 117, 156, 166, 172, 176, 190, 204, 207, 212, 218, 231, 242, 246, 292

For update with master USB stick (as from NTG 4.5).
IMPORTANT Enter the activation code provided in VeDoc and start with the update.
IMPORTANT The update process can take a while to complete. The progress bar indicates how much has been completed.
 
9.1 Remove all master DVDs from vehicle and insert previously removed CDs or DVDs. Model 117, 156, 164, 166, 169, 172, 176, 190, 197, 204, 207, 212, 216, 218, 221, 231, 242, 245, 246, 251, 292

After updating with master DVD.
 
9.2 Disconnect master USB flash drive from front USB connection. Model 117, 156, 166, 172, 176, 190, 204, 207, 212, 218, 231, 242, 246, 292

10 Switch off COMAND controller unit or head unit.    
11 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key.
