Task

The radar sensor transmits bundled electromagnetic waves as so-called primary signals. Objects in the detection range of radar sensor reflect these electromagnetic waves. The radar sensor receives the reflected electromagnetic waves (secondary signals) and evaluates them according to various criteria. In this way, different information can be obtained about the objects:

The following types of radar sensor are differentiated, depending on application:

The front short and long range radar sensor detects objects (e.g. vehicles) in both the close and the long range. The integrated control electronics unit evaluates the object data from the front short and long range radar sensor. The sensor cover around the front short and long range radar sensor is heated. This keeps the front short and long range radar sensor free of ice and snow. The heating for the sensor cover is actuated by the front short and long range radar sensor. The front short-range and long-range radar sensor is connected to the vehicle's network architecture via the FlexRay.

The outer front bumper radar sensors are connected to the vehicle's network architecture via CAN.

The outer rear radar sensors are connected to the vehicle's network architecture via CAN.

The high band width of the radar sensors allows a very precise position statement to be made and optimizes separation of objects lying close to each other.
