(Component Description For Rear Display Left/Right - GF82.90-P-4020GR)
MODEL 166 up to model year 2016 with CODE 864 (Rear entertainment system)
Location
The left rear display is located on the left front seat behind the head restraint.
The right rear display is located on the right front seat behind the head restraint.
Illustrated on model 166.0
The two displays are identical The pin assignment (cf connector A pin 5) in document "Left/right rear display pin/connector assignment") is used to differentiate between the left and right rear displays. The left rear display is connected to terminal 31.
Tasks
- Visualization of all user-relevant information in rear entertainment system
- Use of all audio equipment or video units connected to the rear display
- Power and resource management
- Man Machine Interface (MMI)
- Receive signals
- Generation of picture signals
- Generating radio signals
- Transmitting signals
Visualization of all user-relevant information in rear entertainment system
- Graphic displays for user guidance
- Operation
- Display of digital picture signals
Use of all audio equipment or video units connected to the rear display
Use also includes the management of the connected devices as well as detection of any connected video units The following audio equipment or video units can be connected via the AUX jack for example:
- MP3 player portable DVD player
- Video cameras
- Game consoles
Media sources connected via "AUX" must always be selected manually Only then can connected video units be detected and their video signals played back
Power and resource management
Detection of overvoltage/undervoltage combined with appropriate switch on/off behavior
Man Machine Interface (MMI)
Enables the communication between the rear passenger or the rear passengers and the rear entertainment system by means of the infrared (IR) interfaces of the remote control and the rear display.
Receive signals
- Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
- Direct lines
Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
The rear display is a subscriber of the telematics CAN (CAN A) It communicates with the following components:
- Audio equipment (radio (A2) or COMAND controller unit (A40/3))
- DVD player (A40/4)
Direct lines
- Power supply via circuit 30g and circuit 31
- Y-brightness (luminance)/C-color information (chrominance) (Y/C) line for analog picture signals from the DVD player
- Low frequency (LF) line (stereo line) for analog audio signals from the DVD player
- Analog picture and audio signals from the audio equipment or video units connected to the AUX jack
- Infrared signals (digital) from remote control via the infrared interface
Generation of picture signals
Generation of digital picture signals from the analog picture signals to be shown on the rear display.
Generating radio signals
Generation of digital radio signals from analog audio signals for transmission to headphones (cordless) connected via the two-way radio interface
Transmitting signals
- CAN
- DVD player
Direct lines
- Direct lines
CAN
The rear display is a subscriber of the telematics CAN. It communicates with the following components:
- Audio equipment (radio or COMAND controller unit)
- Electrical analog signals (frequency) (audio signals) to headphones connected via cable
- Radio signals (digital audio signals) to the radio frequency headphones (cordless) via the radio interface
The volume of the audio signals can only be adjusted via the remote control for the headphones connected by cable to the headphone socket. For the headphones (cordless) connected via the IR or radio interface, the volume of the audio signals is adjusted via the volume control integrated in the IR headphones.
Body
An amplifier for the integrated headphone socket (3.5 mm) is integrated into the rear display.
The rear display has the following features:
- 8" thin film transistor (TFT) color display
- Display format 16:9
- Maximum resolution 800 x 480 pixels, 3 x 6 bit color depth (able to display 262, 144 colors)
Setup of the screen using the "Disk" menu item in the "DVD-V" menu as an example
