MODEL 166

up to model year 2016

Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The CDI control unit (N3/9) (diesel engine) or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (gasoline engine) sends the "Engine running" or "Drivetrain operational" signal over chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1), the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and the interior CAN (CAN B) to the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit.

The outside temperature is detected by the outside temperature sensor (B14). The SAM control unit directly reads in the outside temperature sensor signals, calculates the actual outside temperature and transmits the data to the instrument cluster (A1) over the interior CAN (CAN B). The instrument cluster calculates the outside temperature to be displayed, taking the vehicle speed and the heat given off by the engine into consideration, and transmits this via the interior CAN to the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit.

Heated wiper park position, general

During operation of the wiper park position heater, the wiper blades are prevented from freezing to the windshield. This is done by heating the area on the windshield, on which the wiper blades rest in the park position.

Heated wiper park position function sequence

The automatic air conditioning control and operating unit (N22/7) switches on the wiper park position heater (R2/10) over the wiper park position heater relay (F58kS) with the engine running and an outside temperature of T < 5_°C.

IMPORTANT The power supply of the wiper park position heater comes from the SAM control unit (N10).

When the wiper park position heater is switched on, the engine temperature is stored.

In dry weather conditions, the maximum operating time is t = 25 min. The automatic air conditioning control and operating unit reads in all the relevant information and actuates the wiper park position heater accordingly.

IMPORTANT If the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit cannot receive an outside temperature value from the instrument cluster, it calculates the outside temperature itself.

In normal operation the wiper park position heater is only activated one time with circuit 15 On. If the "Defrost" function is activated by automatic air conditioning control and operating unit after the expiry of the duty cycle or the windshield wiper carries out more than 5 wiping procedures within t = 16 s after a manual request, the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit switches the wiper park position heater on again.

Information on the number of wipe cycles is sent by the SAM control unit over the interior CAN to the AAC control and operating unit. The wiper request is defined by means of the switch position of the combination switch (S4). The steering column tube module control unit (N80) reads in the position of the combination switch directly and transmits this via chassis CAN 1, the electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the SAM control unit.

The wiper park position heater is switched off automatically under the following conditions:

IMPORTANT The switch-off times can be adjusted using the diagnostic tester.

The engine coolant temperature is recorded by the coolant temperature sensor (B11/4). The CDI control unit or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit reads in the signal of the coolant temperature sensor directly, calculates the engine coolant temperature and sends this value over chassis CAN 1, electronic ignition lock control unit and interior CAN to the AAC control and operating unit.
