In principle replacement parts required for this repair can be replaced completely. Ensure that the standard joining and bonding connections are observed or are coordinated with the responsible Daimler departments in individual cases. On cut panels also ensure that the joints to the present paneling are accessible for later cavity preservation and that the minimum distance between foam-protected areas and connection points is approx. 100 mm.
- Scribe separating points on rear fender (1) and cut (areas A, B, C and D).
Separating points are Y-markings (arrows).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas E, F, G and H).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas I, J, K, L, N and O).
- Cut adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and out side wall (1) (area M).
- Heat rear fender (1) at crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive from outer rear wheel well (area P).
A maximum of 2 mm of adhesive residue may be left. Pull off loose adhesive material (remaining pieces which are not completely cut off).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in the cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
- Crimp connecting flange on rear fender (1) with crimping pliers toward inside (areas A and B).
