Panic Alarm System (PAS), Basic Function - GF82.25-P-9902A

Model all (CAR)

with code Z22 (Panic alarm system)

Overview

This document contains information on:

General

In the event of danger, the panic alarm system enables vehicle occupants to be secured against external access. A visual and acoustic alarm calls attention to an emergency situation. It is also possible to use an intercom system to contact people outside the vehicle.

Function requirements

Function

Trigger alarm

The following buttons trigger the alarm:

The status of the emergency alarm system activation button is read in by the special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU) directly and forwarded to the PAS and special signaling system control unit. The PAS [GAS] and special signal system control unit then triggers the alarm.

Alarm output

The alarm output is performed using an optical and acoustic alarm. The vehicle is also locked and the fresh air/recirculated air flaps are closed.

Optical alarm:

During visual alarm output, the special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU) sends the "Alarm light functions" request via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit. As a result, the hazard warning light system flashes at increased flashing frequency (alarm flashing) and the high beams flash on and off.

Acoustic alarm:

The acoustic alarm is emitted through the exterior PAS [GAS] speakers mounted in the front area of the vehicle.

The frequency is generated by a sound generator integrated into the PAS [GAS] and special signal system control unit, and sent directly to the PAS [GAS] speakers.

Lock vehicle:

To secure the vehicle against access from the outside the central locking system (CL [ZV]) is locked when an alarm is triggered. The "Unlock vehicle" key function is disabled and the vehicle can only be unlocked from the outside using the emergency key.

IMPORTANT All doors are always locked. Even if a door is still open the remaining doors are still locked. If the door is closed, it is then locked. Only an open driver's door is not locked (driver lockout protection).

IMPORTANT The CL cannot be unlocked from the inside (electrically via the CL inside door handle button) or wirelessly as long as the special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU) is sending the "Lock CL" request via the interior CAN. In the event of an alarm, manual opening of the individual vehicle doors from the inside or opening from the outside using the emergency key in the driver's door lock is also possible.

IMPORTANT Model all (CAR)

with code 883 (Power locking)

with code Z22 (Panic alarm system)

If one of the doors is in the first lock notch, the door is fully closed by the power closing function, and then locked.

Close air recirculation flap:

The air recirculation flap is closed to ensure that unpleasant odors or pollutants do not enter from the outside. In the event of an alarm, the special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU) sends the "Switch on recirculated air" request via the interior CAN to the climate control unit.

IMPORTANT The "Switch on recirculation" request is sent for a limited period only. During this period, the air recirculation flap can be manually opened using the air-recirculation mode button on the air conditioning control panel.

Switch off alarm

The alarm can be switched off by pressing the full-duplex intercom system (speak) button in the Guard operating unit or after a minimum alarm time of approx. 3 seconds by pressing one of the alarm buttons again. The active alarm functions are deactivated. The operating conditions of the standard components, such as, e. g. the exterior lights and the CL system, are active again and can be operated as usual.

IMPORTANT The "Switch on recirculation" request is sent for a limited period only. During this period, the air recirculation flap can be manually opened using the air-recirculation mode button on the air conditioning control panel.

IMPORTANT Control code 89Z is used to limit the alarm duration. The alarm is switched off after no more than 30 seconds.

Intercom system

The intercom system can be used to make contact with the outside of the vehicle or to listen to external noise in the vehicle. In both cases, an active audio output (e.g. radio) is muted.

Voice communications from outside to inside:

The intercom system button (Listen) in the Guard operating unit activates the intercom system. Noises outside the vehicle are recorded by the left outside mirror PAS [GAS] microphone and the right outside mirror PAS [GAS] microphone. The PAS and special signaling system control unit reads in the signals from the outside mirror PAS microphones directly, amplifies them and actuates the speaker in the instrument panel.

Voice communications from inside to outside:

Operation of the intercom system button (Speak) in the Guard operating unit switches off the outside mirror PAS [GAS] microphones, and the voice communication function from the inside outwards is then activated. The acoustic signals are picked up by the interior microphone and read in directly by the PAS and special signaling system control unit. The PAS [GAS] and special signal system control unit amplifies these signals and sends them through a direct output to the PAS [GAS] outside speaker.

IMPORTANT Operating the intercom system button (Speak) in the Guard operating unit causes a triggered alarm to be terminated.
