Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT Detailed information on the operating state of the transport mode is given in the separate function description for energy management.

Electric panoramic sliding sunroof, general

The front section of the panoramic sliding sunroof can be opened in the tilt or slide position.

The roller sun blinds are first retracted if they were in the extended position.

The front and rear roller sun blinds can only be opened and closed together.

It is operated via the sliding roof switch.

Overheating protection:

The panoramic sliding sunroof motor and the panoramic sliding sun roof roller sun blind motor are protected against overheating by a software thermal protection in the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit. This temperature in the panoramic sliding sunroof motor and panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind motor is calculated in consideration of the voltage, current and duration of actuation as well as outside temperature. The instrument cluster calculates the outside temperature and sends this to the panoramic sliding roof control unit over the interior CAN.

Detection of switch signals

Actuation of the sliding roof switch is clearly recognized only after t = 40 ± 10 ms. The maximum actuation time is t ≥ 20 s. After t = 60 s, the system considers the sliding roof switch to be jammed. A new actuation (triggered via the sliding roof switch) can only be performed again after detecting that the sliding roof switch is in the rest position.

IMPORTANT The comfort functions are control possibilities allowing central opening and closing together with the side windows from one control point. These comfort functions are described in the partial function "Convenience feature (CF [KFB]), function" within the "Theft protection and lock function description" function.

The electric sliding roof panoramic function comprises the following partial functions:

Additional function requirements for position monitoring

Function sequence for position monitoring

The position of the panoramic sliding sunroof and roller sun blinds is determined by the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit by evaluating the signals of the following sensors:

The Hall sensors are positioned offset by 90° on the axle of the panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind motor and the panoramic sliding sunroof motor. By counting the hall sensor pulses, the positions of the panoramic sliding roof and roller sun blinds are sensed.

The zero position (roller sun blinds and panoramic sliding sunroof completely closed) can be set by normalizing.

Additional function requirements for normalization

Function sequence for normalization

Normalization is the basis for assignment of the current position to the position of the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit recognized by the roller sun blind or panoramic sliding roof. For this purpose the roller sun blinds or the panoramic sliding roof must be closed completely. Manually close roller sun blinds and panoramic sliding sunroof with panoramic sliding sunroof switch until the mechanical stop is reached. Then press the sliding roof switch again for at least t = 1 second. By evaluating the signals of the Hall sensors, the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit recognizes the blockage and sets the corresponding location counter to zero.

IMPORTANT The position of the panoramic sliding sunroof and the roller sun blind cannot be determined in the denormalized state. Actuation can only be performed in steps of t = 0, 5 s each.

Denormalization takes place:

Additional function requirements for blockage detection

Function sequence for lockup recognition

Blockage is detected if signals are no longer detected from the Hall sensors for a period of t = 160 ms during an adjustment request.

If blockage is recognized in closing direction, the panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind motor and panoramic sliding sunroof motor is first stopped and then actuated in the opposite direction.

When blockage is recognized in the opening direction, the panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind motor and panoramic sliding sunroof motor are stopped and no longer actuated.

Additional function requirements for automatic reversing function

Function sequence for automatic reserving function

The automatic reversing function is based on the current fuel consumption (determined by the power consumption) of the panoramic sliding roof motor or the roller sun blind motor or by adaption of the fuel required.

If this comparison exceeds a certain limit with value during a closing operation, this is detected as blockage by the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit.

IMPORTANT During teach-in mode, the panoramic sliding roof and the roller sun blinds are moved through all closing operations in the normalized state. The panoramic sliding sunroof control module adapts to changes in the power consumption resulting from increased sluggishness (e.g. dirt in the mechanical system).

If blockage is detected during an opening procedure, the panoramic sliding roller sun blind motor or panoramic sliding roof motor are only stopped. If pinching is recognized during closing, the panoramic sliding roller sun blind motor or panoramic sliding roof motor are first stopped and then reversed (actuated in opposite direction).

During automatic closing, the roof is reversed by s = 145 mm.

During rain closing, the roof is reversed by s = 70 mm.

During manual closing, the roof is reversed by s = 20 mm.

Special case closing panoramic sliding sunroof manually

If the roof system switch is actuated again in the closing direction within t = 2 s after the roof is reversed, greater force is applied to close the roof. The next closing attempt deactivates the automatic reversing function.

Additional function requirements for opening/closing of roller sun blinds

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit via the interior CAN.

IMPORTANT When a front door is opened or closed during the run-on time, this triggers a restart of the run-on time. The front door control units transmit the status of the front doors (open or closed) to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit via interior CAN.

Function sequence for opening/closing roller sun blinds

The roller sun blinds can be opened and closed manually or automatically.

The roller sun blind is opened or closed manually by actuating the sliding roof switch to the first detent. When the sliding roof switch is actuated beyond the first catch, the roller sun blinds are completely opened and closed automatically.

The SAM control unit reads in the status of the sliding roof switch via the roof LIN and transmits it to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit via interior CAN. The panoramic sliding sunroof control unit actuates the panoramic sliding sunroof motor according to the selected actuation direction. The automatic reversing function is active during closing.

Additional function requirements for panoramic sliding roof

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit via the interior CAN.

IMPORTANT When a front door is opened or closed during the run-on time, this triggers a restart of the run-on time. The front door control units transmit the status of the front doors (open or closed) to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit via interior CAN.

Function sequence for adjusting panoramic sliding roof

The panoramic sliding roof function comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for opening/closing panoramic sliding sunroof

The panoramic sliding sunroof can be opened and closed manually or automatically.

The panoramic sliding sunroof is opened or closed manually for the time the request is pending by actuating the sliding roof switch to the first detent. The panoramic sliding sunroof is fully opened or closed automatically by actuating the sliding roof switch past the first detent.

When closing, the automatic reversing function with escalation is active. The automatic reversing function is active within a limited range during opening the panoramic sliding sunroof (protection against pinching of glass cover rear edge/basic roof carrier or roof railing). Automatically opening/closing the panoramic sliding sunroof is aborted if the sliding roof switch is actuated again.

Additional function requirements for raising/lowering panoramic sliding sunroof in tilt position

Function sequence for raising/lowering panoramic sliding sunroof in tilt position

When the panoramic sliding sunroof switch is actuate to the first catch (manual raising/lowering) or beyond the first catch (automatic raising/lowering), the panoramic sliding sunroof is raised to the tilt position or lowered from the tilt position.

When raising/lowering manually, the panoramic sliding sunroof is adjusted as long as the sliding roof switch is actuated. When raising/lowering automatically, the panoramic sliding sunroof is adjusted to the end position when the sliding roof switch is released.

Automatically opening/closing the panoramic sliding sunroof is aborted if the sliding roof switch is actuated again.

Additional function requirements for rain closing

IMPORTANT The status of circuit 15 and the status of the central locking are sent by the electronic ignition lock control unit via the interior CAN to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit.

Function sequence for rain closing

Moistening the windshield is recognized by the rain/light sensor. The rain/light sensor sends the request "Rain closing" over the roof-LIN to the SAM control unit. The SAM control unit evaluates the request from the rain/light sensor and transmits it to the panoramic sliding roof control unit via the interior CAN. The panoramic sliding roof control unit actuates the panoramic sliding roof motor. The panoramic sliding sunroof is adjusted to the tilt position. Monitoring is then no longer performed.

IMPORTANT Moreover, rain closing is performed even if the run-on time (t = 6 has expired or the voltage or temperature is no longer within the operating range of the rain/light sensor.

IMPORTANT MODEL 166 up to model year 2016 with CODE 413 (Panoramic glass roof with top sliding roof)

with CODE 882 (Interior monitoring (with ATA [EDW] only))

An alarm actuation is suppressed by the interior protection feature during rain closing.
