Function requirements, general 

Headlamp switch-off delay (SWA), general 

The SWA function is used for leaving and finding the vehicle safely in darkness by switching on the ambient illumination.

IMPORTANT The duration of the headlamp switch-off delay can be set in 15 second intervals between t = 0 and 60 s in the COMAND controller unit.

The following light functions are activated here:

IMPORTANT Detailed information on the standing/parking lights actuation is available in the separate subfunction "Standing/parking lights actuation, function". The left parking light, standing light and daytime running light (E1e13) and the right parking light, standing light and daytime running light (E2e13) light up brighter during the SWA than during the standing/parking lights actuation.

The SWA function is comprised of the following subfunctions:

IMPORTANT The headlamp switch-off delay and locator lighting functions run in parallel if necessary. An active headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) function is not terminated by a requested AFB function and vice versa.

Function sequence for SWA (outer OFF delay function) 

The SWA function (outer OFF delay function) is activated by the driver after the engine has been switched off (change from status circuit 15 ON to circuit 15 R ON) for the configured time. The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the status of circuit 15 via the interior CAN to the SAM control unit.

The SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. At the same time, the SAM control unit transmits the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:

The SAM control unit transmits the request to switch on the ambient illumination via the interior CAN, the electronic ignition lock control unit and chassis CAN 2 to the following control unit:

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp and the left front door outer door handle illumination.

The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp and the right front door outer door handle illumination.

The left rear door control unit actuates the left rear door outer door handle illumination.

The right rear door control unit actuates the right rear door outer door handle illumination.

The left headlamp control unit actuates the left front ambient light.

The right headlamp control unit actuates the right front ambient light.

IMPORTANT The function starts again by opening a vehicle door. The liftgate is assessed as a vehicle door. If all vehicle doors are closed again, the function is restarted. The left front door control unit and the right front door control unit transmit the status of the front doors via interior CAN to the SAM control unit. The status of the rear doors is sent by the left rear door control unit and right rear door control unit, the status of the trunk lid or liftgate is sent by the rear control unit (N10/8) via interior CAN to the SAM control unit. The active SWA is interrupted by switching on circuit 15 or by triggering an anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) alarm (with CODE 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]))).

Function sequence for locator lighting (AFB) 

When unlocking the vehicle, the ambient illumination is switched on for a period of t = 40 s (time for the automatic relocking). The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking via interior CAN to the SAM control unit. The SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. At the same time, the SAM control unit transmits the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:

On vehicles with CODE 641 (Dynamic left-hand traffic LED headlamp) or CODE 642 (Dynamic right-hand traffic LED headlamp), the SAM control unit also sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit, and chassis CAN 2 to the following control unit:

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp and the left front door outer door handle illumination. The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp and the right front door outer door handle illumination.

The left rear door control unit actuates the left rear door outer door handle illumination.

The right rear door control unit actuates the right rear door outer door handle illumination.

The left headlamp control unit actuates the left front ambient light.

The right headlamp control unit actuates the right front ambient light.

IMPORTANT The ambient lights in the front lamp units light up for a period of t = 2 s in blue before turning to white.

IMPORTANT If an engine start is detected within t = 40 s, a change is made from the locator lighting to the on/off driving lights function. Detailed information on the auto on/off driving lights is available in the "Driving lights actuation" function.
