Intelligent Driving Radar Sensor, Basic Function - GF54.71-P-2005A
MODEL ALL (CAR)
with CODE 23P (Driving Assistance package)
MODEL ALL (CAR)
with CODE P20 (Driving Assistance package Plus)
Location
Front radar sensor system:
The front near and long-range radar sensor is located in the center, in front of the radiator.
The front outer radar sensors (vehicles with Driving Assistance Plus Package) are located on the left and right behind the front bumper.
Location
Rear radar sensor system:
The outer rear radar sensors are located on the left and right behind the rear bumper.
Task
The radar sensor transmits bundled electromagnetic waves as so-called primary signals. Objects in the detection range of radar sensor reflect these electromagnetic waves. The radar sensor receives the reflected electromagnetic waves (secondary signals) and evaluates them according to various criteria. In this way, different information can be obtained about the objects:
- Angle or direction to the object
- Distance to the object
- Speed differential
The following types of radar sensor are differentiated, depending on application:
- Close and long range radar sensor:
- Short and long-range radar sensor
- Multi-mode radar sensors:
- Outer front bumper radar sensor (vehicles with Driving Assistance Plus Package)
- Outer rear radar sensor
The front short and long range radar sensor detects objects (e.g. vehicles) in both the close and the long range. The integrated control electronics unit evaluates the object data from the front short and long range radar sensor. The sensor cover around the front short and long range radar sensor is heated. This keeps the front short and long range radar sensor free of ice and snow. The heating for the sensor cover is actuated by the front short and long range radar sensor. The front short and long range radar sensor is connected over the suspension FlexRay (Flex E) to the vehicle's network architecture.
The outer front bumper radar sensors (vehicles with Driving Assistance Plus Package) are connected via the front radar CAN (CAN S1) to the network architecture of the vehicle.
The outer rear radar sensors are connected via the rear radar CAN (CAN S2) to the network architecture of the vehicle.
The high band width of the radar sensors allows a very precise position statement to be made and optimizes separation of objects lying close to each other.
