Overview
This document contains the following information:
- General
- Function requirement
- Actuate brake light
General
The brake light indicates to the traffic following behind any intention of the driver to decelerate the vehicle. The brake light can be switched on by operating the service brake or by an autonomous application of the brake.
Function requirement
- Terminal 15 ON
Actuate brake light
When the brake pedal is operated, the brake system registers the driver's deceleration request through the brake light switch on the brake pedal.
In the event of autonomous brake application, the brake light is actuated by the corresponding driver assistance system.
During maximum full-stop braking, the brake lights flash as they are actuated (except Canada version or USA version).
Depending on the vehicle network architecture involved, either the central controller unit or the rear central controller unit receives the switch on brake light request and the actuates the brake lights.
Vehicles with trailer hitch
During trailer operation the brake lights on the trailer are also actuated. Depending on the vehicle network architecture involved, either the central controller unit or the rear central controller unit requests the brake lights to be switched-on on the trailer. The trailer recognition control unit implements this request.
If the vehicle comes to a standstill after maximum full-stop braking, the hazard warning flasher function is automatically activated if braking occurred from a speed of over 70 km/h.
Canada version or USA version
The turn signal light has higher priority than the brake light.
