This document contains the following information:
- General
- Function requirements
- Parking space search/recognition
- Display and selection of possible parking spaces
General
The parking space detection function is used for simple location of suitable parking spaces. All the detected parking spaces are shown in the multimedia display. Parking space detection can be switched on and off manually.
Function requirements
- Engine running or drive train operational
- Vehicle speed below 36 km/h
- No anti-lock brake system (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) intervention during last 5 s
Parking space search/recognition
The parking space search/detection function is realized through the external distance sensors in the front bumper. These monitor the area to the left and right of the vehicle and therefore have a larger range than the other distance sensors. When a parking space is detected, the driver can activate the automatic parking space entry function through the multimedia display. If the function is not started by the driver, the search for a parking space is continued. Basically, suitable parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle are searched for. Parking space detection evaluates the following function-relevant parameters for the parking space search/recognition function:
- Drive position
- Electric power steering, status
- Wheel speeds and direction of rotation
- Steering wheel angle
- ABS and ESP® status
- Trailer recognition (vehicles with trailer hitch)
Display and selection of possible parking spaces
While the parking space search/recognition function is executed, the instrument cluster shows a P symbol (25) and the multimedia display shows any suitable parking spaces. The arrow sign (26, 27) indicates the side of the vehicle where suitable parking spaces have been detected. The parking space and the direction for entering the parking space can be selected freely.
