General 

The crossing traffic warning system warns the driver and brakes the vehicle in hazardous situations with crossing traffic when reversing out of a parking space.

The maneuvering assistant is operated using the multimedia system.

Function requirements 

• Terminal 15 ON
• Blind Spot Monitoring switched on
• Parking Assist switched on
• Vehicle moves backward at walking pace
• No trailer operation (vehicles with trailer hitch)
• No incline

Operating principle for crossing traffic warning system 

When reversing out of a parking space the radar sensors in the rear bumper monitor the traffic area at the side and to the rear of the vehicle. The area adjacent to the vehicle is always monitored here.

Any crossing traffic is thereby detected. In imminent collision situations, a symbol appears in the multimedia display. A warning tone can also be issued. If the warning is not followed by a reaction from the driver, the vehicle is braked automatically.

When reversing, the crossing traffic warning system is active (0 up to 10 km/h).

Functional restrictions 

The crossing traffic warning system may also be impaired:

• If the radar sensors are badly soiled
• Through insufficient (poor) detection for angle parking
• When covered up by other vehicles
