The following work instructions describe the procedure involved in offline SCN coding. The SCN coding data are requested by fax from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.

Daimler AG reserves the right to raise a flat-rate charge per request for the offline backup process.

Requirements for offline SCN coding:

• Diagnostic system with printer
• Fax machine or email program

The offline SCN coding is broken down into 2 steps:

A) Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding. The vehicle data are required to fill out the fax form for ordering SCN coding data.

B) Perform SCN coding. The SCN coding data are created by the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.

A) Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding 

1. Select the control unit in Xentry Diagnostics (XD).
2. Select offline SCN coding.

   Control unit adaptations or commissioning → SCN coding → Offline (no networked Star Diagnosis device)

3. Confirm note on sequence of SCN coding.
4. Fill out fax form completely and print out.

   If an email address is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per email. If a fax number is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per fax.

5. Send the printed-out fax form to the given fax number of the "Star Diagnosis User Help Desk".

   B) Perform SCN coding 

   For SCN coding data received by email 

6. Unpack the Zip files and burn data onto CD or save onto a USB removable storage device.
7. Mark CD or USB removable storage device accordingly.
8. In XENTRY menu item, select step  2 "Perform SCN coding".
9. Insert CD or connect USB removable storage device.

   To change control units to write mode, an unlocking code (key) is required for the respective control unit. When using regular procedures this is automatically queried by the central systems. In the offline backup process, the user is prompted by XENTRY to ask for the activation code by phone from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk. A detailed description of the process is available in Star Diagnosis INFO.

10. Dispose of CD as per directive for theft-relevant parts (DTR 69/00) and document disposal process on repair order.

    For SCN coding data received by fax 

11. In XENTRY menu item, select step  2 "Perform SCN coding".
12. Selection of keyboard input.
13. Enter SCN coding data into diagnostic system manually.

    Final activities 

14. Perform SCN coding.

    With corresponding specification through XD.

    Switch ignition on and back off.

15. Print out order log and enclose repair order.

    The order log can also be stored on the diagnostic system using "Print menu" → "Print as file". The Starpad program enables order logs to be displayed and printed out using "Star utilities" → "Logs".

16. 16.1 For SCN coding data received per email.

    Import the data via CD or USB removable storage device.

    16.2 For SCN coding data received per fax.

    Delete data on USB removable storage device and document deletion on repair order.
