Information on touchpad
The touchpad is installed in two variants.
Variant (with code 448 (Touchpad)): The touchpad is installed together with the Audio/COMAND control panel. The touchpad is connected only to the telematics CAN.
Variant 2 (with code 446 (Touchpad only)): The touchpad is installed instead of the Audio/COMAND control panel. In this case, the left lower control panel and the right lower control panel are connected over the LCP LIN to the touchpad. The touchpad is also connected to the telematics CAN.
Function requirements, general
- Status of circuit 30g ON (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019)
- Status of circuit 30t ON (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019)
- Transport mode is not active.
- Each service is authorized separately.
- The HERMES control unit is configured with the telephone number of the corresponding service provider.
- The vehicle owner is registered and authorized at the Service Center.
General telematics services
At the vehicle side, the telematics services are realized by the HERMES control unit via a cellular telephone system connection to the Service Center. The HERMES control unit transmits and receives the mobile phone signals via the emergency call system antenna, the telephone antenna splitter, the left telephone antenna and the right telephone antenna (with code 362 (HERMES LTE)).
The emergency call system antenna, the left telephone antenna and the right telephone antenna are used simultaneously and form a transmission and reception diversity.
For some services, the status of circuit 15 is taken into consideration.
The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the circuit status via the diagnostics CAN to the HERMES control unit.
For some services, a WLAN connection to the head unit is required. The head unit receives the WiFi signals from the HERMES control unit over the following antennas:
- Model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019: Bluetooth® antenna, Bluetooth®/WiFi antenna (A2/161), or Bluetooth®/WiFi antenna (A2/162) (with code 549 (Connect 20 High (NTG6)))
- All other vehicles: WiFi antenna
The telematics services function encompasses the following subfunctions:
- Standard telematics services
- Telematics services with code 11U (Remote Online), code 09U (Vehicle monitoring), or code 531 (COMAND APS)
- Additional telematics services with code 506 (Radio Audio 20 NTG 5.5), or code 531 (COMAND APS)
- Additional telematics services with code 494 (USA version) (model 205 to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019)
- Voice connection between vehicle and Service Center
- Position finding
- Forwarding of vehicle data, display messages, data queries and operating requests
- Tracking and notification with anti-theft alarm system (ATA) (with code 551 (anti-theft alarm system (ATA)))

Standard telematics services
The following services, e.g. are available:
- Maintenance management
If a customer contract for service and maintenance is available, vehicle data are transmitted via the Service Center to the service partner if necessary. The service partner then notifies the customer that service is required using the medium selected by the customer (e.g. "MyMercedes", email, telephone). If the customer has not taken out a service and maintenance contract, a pop-up window appears on the Audio/COMAND display 5 days before the calculated service date, asking whether a connection to the customer center should be set up. If the customer selects "Call now", a voice connection is established to the Service Center. If the customer selects "Call later", the pop-up window is displayed again later. If the customer selects "No, thank you", no pop-up window is displayed when the service is due.
- Tele diagnosis
The condition of wear parts (e.g. brake disks) is monitored and, if necessary, transmitted via the Service Center to the service partner. The service partner then notifies the customer using the medium selected by the customer (e.g. "MyMercedes", email, telephone) that the wear parts need to be replaced.
- Accident management
The customer can request technical assistance via a voice connection after an accident.
- Breakdown Management
By pressing the breakdown assistance button (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or the Mercedes me connect button (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019), the customer can request technical assistance through a voice connection to the Service Center. With the customer's consent, the vehicle data is transmitted in order to facilitate quick and effective assistance.
Telematics services with code 11U (Remote Online), code 09U (Vehicle monitoring), or code 531 (COMAND APS)
These app services allow customer to use their terminals (e.g. smartphone, tablet or PC) to send information and operation requests via the Service Center to the vehicle and receive up-to-date vehicle data prepared by the app.
The following telematics services are possible, e.g.:
- With code 11U (Remote Online):
- Remote closing and opening
The HERMES control unit transmits the request via the diagnostic CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit. The electronic ignition lock control unit checks whether it is possible to lock or unlock all vehicle doors and the trunk lid (model 205.0/1/3/4), or the liftgate (model 205.2, 253), performs the locking or unlocking operation, and reports the status back to the HERMES control unit.
- Remote query of vehicle status
Vehicle data e.g. door status and fuel level can be called up online.
- Programming of stationary heater (with code 228 (Stationary heater))
The switch-on time of the stationary heater can be set online without range limitations. The status of the stationary heater can be queried online.
- Pre-entry climate control programming
The engine is started on a parked and locked vehicle (windows and doors closed) then - after a limited period - it is switched off again to enable the "Last Mode" in the air conditioning system to achieve a pre-entry climate control. The HERMES control unit transmits the trigger signal to the electronic ignition lock control unit via the diagnostic CAN.

- Vehicle position
The customer can locate the vehicle in a surrounding area of 1.5 km using the smartphone. This makes it easier to locate the vehicle e.g. in large parking lots or unfamiliar cities.
- Vehicle locating
The customer is informed online about the vehicle's current position by means of transmitted geo-coordinates. Activation of this function is indicated in the vehicle by an icon on the Audio/COMAND display and can be terminated by calling the Service Center from the vehicle.
- Geographical vehicle monitoring
The customer is informed online as soon as his vehicle exits or enters an area designated by the customer. Activation of this function is indicated in the vehicle by an icon on the Audio/COMAND display and can be terminated by calling the Service Center from the vehicle.
- Vehicle position

- Concierge services
The "concierge service" allows the user to press the MB-Info button (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or the Mercedes me connect button (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019) to receive through a voice connection information, e.g. about a local search in the surrounding area (restaurant), stock prices, or to authorize binding services, e.g. book a hotel.
- Concierge services
- Model 205 as of model year 2019 with code 852 (Sensor system for anti-theft alarm system (ATA)), code 882 (Interior monitoring), or code P54 (Anti-Theft Protection Package)
- Collision detection
The ATA is automatically activated when the vehicle is locked by remote control. If a vehicle door or the trunk lid or the liftgate are opened without authorization, or if someone scrapes the parked vehicle, the user will receive a notification on their smartphone via the app.

The telematics services can be used only in conjunction with a valid subscription.

The following telematics services are possible, e.g.:

Pressing the Mercedes me connect button or the MB Contact address book entry enables information to be obtained over a voice connection (e.g. about restaurants in the immediate vicinity or stock prices), and further services to be used (e.g. table reservations, hotel room booking).
- Connected navigation
- Real-time traffic data (with code 367 (Live Traffic Information))
- Car-to-X-Communication (with code 531 (COMAND APS), code 355 (Extended MBUX functions)): Danger areas (e.g. vehicle that has broken down, accident, fog, icy roads) are recorded by the participating vehicles through vehicle sensors and automatically sent to the service provider or manually reported by a user. Participating vehicles receive at regular intervals updated information on dangerous areas in the vicinity that are then output acoustically by the head unit and as a pictogram on the navigation map.
- Apps integrated into the navigation mode (with code 531 (COMAND APS), code 355 (Extended MBUX functions)):The weather, local search, parking-space finder and fuel station prices are shown on the navigation map.
- Online map update over universal serial bus (USB) (with code 531 (COMAND APS), code 355 (Extended MBUX functions)): The user can download software updates in the Internet himself and, e.g. store them on a USB flash drive to make them available through the multimedia connection unit to the head unit.
- Online map update over the universal serial bus (USB) (with code 531 (COMAND APS), code 355 (Extended MBUX functions)): The HERMES control unit receives updates to map data in the background and forwards them to the head unit.
- Satellite images, IP radio, Aupeo! Personal Radio (including chargeable data flat rate)
- Vehicle monitoring (with code 09U (Vehicle monitoring))
- Parked Vehicle Locator: The user can locate the vehicle within a radius of 1.5 km using their smartphone. This makes it easier to locate the vehicle e.g. in large parking lots or unfamiliar cities.
- Vehicle locating: The user is informed online about the vehicle's current position by means of transmitted geo-coordinates. Activation of this function is indicated in the vehicle by an icon on the Audio/COMAND display and can be terminated by calling the Service Center from the vehicle.
- Geographical vehicle monitoring: The user is informed online as soon as his/her vehicle leaves or reaches an area marked by the user. Activation of this function is indicated in the vehicle by an icon on the Audio/COMAND display and can be terminated by calling the Service Center from the vehicle.

- Remote closing and opening: The doors and the trunk lid (model 205.0/1/3/4), or the liftgate (model 205.2, 253) are locked or unlocked. The HERMES control unit transmits the request via the diagnostic CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit. The electronic ignition lock control unit checks whether locking/unlocking is possible, performs the locking or unlocking operation and reports the status to the HERMES control unit.
- Vehicle status remote query: Vehicle data such as the door status and fuel level can be called up online.
- Stationary heater programming (with CODE 228 (Stationary heater): The switch-on time of the stationary heater can be set without range limitations, and the status of the stationary heater can be queried on-line.

- Breakdown Management
When the breakdown assistance button is operated, a voice connection is established with the Service Center, to enable remedial measures to be implemented quickly and efficiently in the event of a defective vehicle.
- MB Info
By pressing the MB-Info button, the user can call up information on products from the Mercedes-Benz brand in addition to other voice-based services (e.g. booking a hotel) over a voice connection.
- Remote closing and opening
The HERMES control unit receives the customer request from the Service Center and transmits the request via the diagnostic CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit. The electronic ignition lock control unit checks whether it is possible to lock or unlock all vehicle doors and the trunk lid (model 205.0/1/3/4), or the liftgate (model 205.2, 253), performs the locking or unlocking operation, and reports the status back to the HERMES control unit.
- Remote diagnosis ("Remote Diagnosis")
Diagnostic data are sent automatically (via scripts, for evaluation), and also manually as part of a breakdown assistance procedure. The manual remote diagnosis is triggered by the Service Center and confirmed by the user. As soon as the diagnostic data has been transmitted, the Service Center restores the voice connection to the vehicle.
- Transmission of vehicle position ("Vehicle Locator")
This service allows the user to determine where the vehicle is currently located. The user receives the vehicle location either in the form of a map display (web page or iPhone), an SMS or by e-mail from the Service Center.
- Notification of a certain speed being exceeded ("Speed Alert")
As soon as the service is activated, the HERMES control unit reads the speed value from the diagnostic CAN with circuit 15 at intervals of no more than 5 s and, if the defined value is exceeded, sends a message to the user.
- Notification if a certain area has been reached or left ("Geo Fencing")
The user can determine areas for the vehicle about which, when arrived at or exited, he/she is notified via an SMS, email or automatic phone call.
- Transmitting information, (e.g. map data) to the vehicle ("Remote Information Feed")
Appropriate information is transferred to the vehicle via the Internet (e.g. Google Maps, Yahoo), or the Service Center. With circuit 15 OFF, the HERMES control unit stores the received data in a buffer. When circuit 15 is ON, the HERMES control unit transmits the received data via the diagnostic CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN to the head unit as soon as it is switched on.
- Transmission of updates to vehicle ("Remote Update")
The software of the HERMES control unit is updated without the user having to visit a workshop. The software is not updated immediately after being sent, but after a period of 15 minutes after circuit 15 OFF.
- Visual and acoustic vehicle recognition ("Flash Lights and Sound Horn")
The visual and acoustic vehicle recognition makes it easier to find your own vehicle if it is outside the range of the transmitter key. The HERMES control unit transmits the request to activate or deactivate the panic alarm to the front SAM control unit via the diagnostic CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and interior CAN.
Remote Start:
Using the cellular telephone system connection to the Service Center, the HERMES control unit also receives the triggering signal for the "Remote Start" function (for pre-entry climate control). The "Remote Start" function starts the engine of a parked and locked vehicle (windows and doors closed) and, after a defined period, switches it off again to enable the "Load Mode" to achieve a pre-entry climate control of the A/C system. The HERMES control unit forwards the triggering signal via the diagnostic CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit.

Voice connection between vehicle and Service Center
The setup of a voice connection to the Mercedes-Benz Service Center is aborted after several unsuccessful dialing attempts, and a corresponding message appears on the Audio/COMAND display.
The voice connection function between the vehicle and the Service Center is split up into the following subfunctions:

- Triggering the voice connection via the "MB-Contact" address book entry
- Mute function

The overhead control panel control unit reads in the operation signals of the emergency call system button group directly.
At the same time as a voice connection is established, a data telegram is sent to the Mercedes-Benz Service Center containing, e.g. the following data: time stamp, global navigation system (GPS) position, the language configured in the head unit and the vehicle identification number.
While the voice connection is active, the light-emitting diode integrated in the button flashes; for this, the HERMES control unit actuates the Mercedes me connect button, the breakdown assistance button or the MB-Info button in the opposite direction.
This is also indicated in the instrument cluster and on the audio/COMAND display. The HERMES control unit transmits the display request to the instrument cluster and head unit via the diagnostic CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN. The head unit sends this over the LVDS line (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or the HSVL line (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019) to the Audio/COMAND display.
The Service Center can perform a remote diagnosis if necessary.
The Service Center can transmit map data to the vehicle if necessary. The data is made available to the navigation module of the head unit.
Triggering the voice connection via the "MB-Contact" address book entry
By selecting the permanently reserved address book entry "MB-Contact", the HERMES control unit establishes a voice connection to the Mercedes-Benz Service Center via the emergency call system antenna/telephone antenna splitter and the left telephone antenna, right telephone antenna (with code 362 (HERMES LTE)).
The permanently reserved address book entry "MB-Contact" can be selected using the following components:
- Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only))
The Audio/COMAND control panel sends the control signals over the telematics CAN to the head unit.
- Touchpad (with code 448 (Touchpad), or with code 446 (Touchpad only))
The touchpad sends the operation signals over the telematics CAN to the head unit.
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups

The steering wheel electronics reads in the operation signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button groups and the right multifunction steering wheel button groups directly and transmits them via the steering LIN, the steering column tube module control unit, the suspension FlexRay, the electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster and the head unit.

The steering wheel electronics reads in the control signals of the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group directly. The steering wheel electronics transmits the operation signals via the steering wheel CAN, the steering column tube module control unit, the suspension FlexRay, the electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN to the head unit.
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (with code 531 (COMAND APS)) The VCS is activated on the left multifunction steering wheel button group (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99). The VCS is automatically switched off when the call is set up.
When the VCS is active, the voice commands are recorded by the hands-free system microphone (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or by the driver's hands-free system microphone (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99), and forwarded to the head unit over a direct line.
The individual voice commands are listed in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".
If the address book entry "MB Contact" has been selected, the head unit transmits the signal to the HERMES control unit via the user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and diagnostic CAN.
Mute function
When a voice connection is set up, the HERMES control unit transmits a signal for muting the audio sources via a direct line to the following components, which actuate the speaker system:
- Head unit (except code 810 (Sound system), and except model 205 with code 853 ("Midline" sound system))
- Sound system amplifier control unit (with code 810 (Sound system))
- Midline sound system amplifier control unit (model 205 with code 853 ("Midline" sound system))
Hands-free
The hands-free system is not available for telephone calls for the duration of the voice connection.
After a data telegram has been transmitted to the Mercedes-Benz Service Center, the user can speak to a service receptionist via the voice connection. The Mercedes-Benz Service Center carries out the call in the language that was selected in the system settings of the head unit and transmitted in the data telegram, where possible.
The HERMES control unit receives the outgoing voice signals over the head unit from the hands-free system microphone (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or from the driver's hands-free system microphone (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019).
The HERMES control unit outputs the incoming voice signals over the center instrument panel speaker.
The volume of the voice output can be adjusted using the following controls:
- + and - button, setting specific functions and volume adjustment on the right multifunction steering wheel button group (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019)
- Head unit multifunction steering wheel button group (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019)

The steering wheel electronics reads in the operation signals of the head unit multifunction steering wheel button groups directly and transmits them via the steering wheel CAN, the steering column tube module control unit, the suspension FlexRay, the electronic ignition lock control unit and the diagnostics CAN to the HERMES control unit.
The left lower control panel or the right lower control panel sends the volume setting over the LCP-LIN, Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)), or touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only)), telematics CAN, head unit, user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and the diagnostic CAN to the HERMES control unit.
Termination of the voice connection
The voice connection can be ended using the right multifunction steering wheel button group (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019), if this has not already been done by the Mercedes-Benz Service Center.

For the services that require a voice connection between the vehicle and the Service Center, the prioritization shown below applies.

Telematics services, e.g. accident management, can also be triggered by the Service Center after an emergency call with the customer's consent. In this case, the voice connection that was set up for the emergency call is used again by means of transferring within the Service Center. The emergency call is then converted into a service with lower priority.
Position finding
A determination of the current vehicle position is essential for many telematics services. On vehicles with code 531 (COMAND APS), or with code 355 (Pre-installation for navigation retrofit), the HERMES control unit takes on the signals of the position finding from the head unit. The head unit transmits the signals to the HERMES control unit via the user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and diagnostic CAN. On Model 205, Model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019 with code 531 (COMAND APS), or with code 355 (Pre-installation for navigation retrofit), or with code 355 (Extended MBUX functions), the HERMES control unit also performs its own position finding. As a result, the HERMES control unit can immediately compensate for a failure of the signals from the head unit.
Position finding is carried out by the HERMES control unit on vehicles except code 355 (Pre-installation for navigation retrofit), and except code 531 (COMAND APS).
For position finding, the HERMES control unit uses the global navigation system (GPS). GPS is available worldwide. GPS position finding is irretrievable after vehicle transport (e.g. by train or ferry or after towing). Recalculation of the GPS position (following an interruption in satellite reception) can take several minutes. A basic position finding routine runs in parallel to the GPS position finding routine that makes it possible to also locate the position of the vehicle if GPS reception fails.
The position finding function consists of the following component functions:
- GPS position finding (Model 205, Model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019 or for vehicles except code 355 (Pre-installation for navigation retrofit), and except code 531 (COMAND APS))
- Basic position finding (Model 205, Model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019 or for vehicles except code 355 (Pre-installation for navigation retrofit), and except code 531 (COMAND APS))
GPS position finding (Model 205, Model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019 or for vehicles except code 355 (Pre-installation for navigation retrofit), and except code 531 (COMAND APS))
The HERMES control unit receives the GPS signals from the GPS antenna. On vehicles up to 31.05.2019 with code 506 (Audio 20 NTG 5.5 radio), and code 830 (Additional parts for China vehicles), the HERMES control unit receives the GPS signals over the global positioning system antenna splitter.

Basic position finding (Model 205, Model 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019 or for vehicles except code 355 (Pre-installation for navigation retrofit), and except code 531 (COMAND APS))
The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the status of circuit 15 to the HERMES control unit via diagnostic CAN.
The HERMES control unit requires the following signals for basic position finding:
- Wheel speed and yaw rate signals from the Electronic Stability Program control unit
The Electronic Stability Program control unit transmits the wheel speed and yaw rate signals to the HERMES control unit via the chassis FlexRay, electronic ignition lock control unit and diagnostic CAN.
- Steering wheel angle sensor
The steering column tube module control unit reads the steering wheel angle sensor directly and transmits the signals to the HERMES control unit via the chassis FlexRay, electronic ignition lock control unit and diagnostic CAN.
The HERMES control unit uses the data to calculate the current vehicle position (longitude and latitude).
Location faults during position finding: Rolling backwards with circuit 15 OFF or vehicle transportation falsify basic position finding. In both cases, this deviation is automatically corrected on receipt of GPS data.
Forwarding of vehicle data, display messages, data queries and operating requests
The HERMES control unit forwards the data, data queries and operating requests that have been received via the cellular telephone system connection to the service center via the diagnostic CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit, from where they are distributed further according to the respective requests. The HERMES control unit receives vehicle data via the diagnostics CAN from the electronic ignition lock control unit and transmits it along with the position finding data via the emergency call system antenna, the telephone antenna splitter, the left telephone antenna and the right telephone antenna (with code 362 (HERMES LTE)), according to requirements, to the Service Center.
The HERMES control unit transmits the content displayed on the Audio/COMAND display (e.g. pop-up window, vehicle locating symbol, field strength) to the head unit via the diagnostic CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN. The head unit sends this over the LVDS line (model 205 up to model year 2019, model 253 (except 253.99) up to 31.05.2019), or the HSVL line (model 205 as of model year 2019, model 253.99, 253 (except 253.99) as of 01.06.2019) to the Audio/COMAND display.
The head unit transmits the control communication (e.g. switch on) to the Audio/COMAND display via the telematics CAN.
Some text messages on the Audio/COMAND display can be confirmed with the Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)), or the touchpad (with code 448 (Touchpad), or with code 446 (Touchpad only)). The Audio/COMAND control panel or the touchpad transmits the signals to the HERMES control unit via the telematics CAN, head unit, user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and diagnostics CAN.
Tracking and alert with ATA (with code 551 (anti-theft alarm system (ATA)))
The purpose of tracking is:
- Retrieval of stolen or misappropriated vehicles
- Fast assistance if vehicle stolen or in the event of a holdup
The tracking function encompasses the following subfunctions:
- ATA alarm
- Vehicle theft telephone message from vehicle owner to police and then to Service Center
- Vehicle tracking
ATA alarm
Approx. 30 s after an ATA alarm has been triggered, the front SAM control unit transmits the status "ATA alarm active" to the HERMES control unit via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and diagnostic CAN.
The HERMES control unit transmits the status "ATA alarm active" via the emergency call system antenna, the telephone antenna splitter, the left telephone antenna and the right telephone antenna (with code 362 (HERMES LTE)) to the Service Center. The Service Center receives this status and informs the vehicle owner that the ATA alarm has been triggered. The Service Center does not trigger tracking at this stage.
Vehicle theft telephone message from vehicle owner to police and then to Service Center
If the vehicle owner has been informed by the Service Center that their vehicle has been stolen, or if they notice themselves that the vehicle has been stolen, then the vehicle owner must contact the police and report the theft. The vehicle owner receives a special number from the police, which confirms that the vehicle theft has been reported.
With this number, the vehicle owner can report to the Service Center, by telephone, and give this number to the employee there. The Service Center checks the request and legitimization (authorization) of the vehicle owner.
Vehicle tracking
Once the theft has been reported to the Service Center and legitimization (authorization) has been provided by the Service Center, an initiation command is transmitted to the vehicle. The initiation command is received by the communication module integrated in the HERMES control unit via the emergency call system antenna, the telephone antenna splitter, the left telephone antenna and the right telephone antenna (with code 362 (HERMES LTE)). The HERMES control unit then activates the position finding and also the voice connection to the vehicle, if necessary.
The HERMES control unit then transmits the position data via the emergency call system antenna, the telephone antenna splitter, the left telephone antenna and the right telephone antenna (with code 362 (HERMES LTE)) to the Service Center.
The position data is transmitted cyclically and for the following events:
- Exceeding a certain distance
- Circuit 15 ON or circuit 15 OFF (switching the ignition on or off)
The Service Center forwards the location of the vehicle to the responsible command staff (e.g. police). The command staff can then decide whether or not to speak to the driver.
Vehicle tracking can only be deactivated by the Service Center.
