Location
In model 205 except hybrid vehicles, the telematics services communications module is located beneath the paneling in the trunk, in the front area behind the rear bench seat.
In hybrid vehicles, the telematics services communications module is installed on a major assembly carrier in a recess beneath the paneling of the trunk in the rear area just to the right of center.
On vehicles of model 253, the telematics services communications module is installed in the center console.
Tasks
The telematics services communications module establishes the connection to the service provider and controls the functions connected to the telematics services in the vehicle. Depending on the vehicle equipment, the telematics services communications module is responsible for the following tasks:
- Tasks of the telematics services communications module with CODE B54 (Live Traffic Information)
- Tasks of the telematics services communications module with CODE B57 (COM MODULE battery level))
- Tasks of the telematics services communications module with CODE 350 (eCall Europe emergency call system)

Tasks of the telematics services communications module with CODE B54 (Live Traffic Information)
During navigation with real-time traffic data (with CODE B54 (Live Traffic Information)), the telematics services communications module has the following tasks:
- The telematics services communications module receives real-time traffic data from the service provider via the communications module/stationary heater antenna (A2/129), and forwards it via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection to the head unit (A26/17) (except code B24 (Remote control for stationary heater)).
- The telematics services communications module receives real-time traffic data from the service provider via the communications module/stationary heater antenna splitter (A2/125), and transmits it via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection to the head unit (with CODE B24 (Remote control for stationary heater)).
- The telematics services communications module receives position data from the head unit via a USB connection, links it with the data from the integrated position finding module and sends the resulting position data via the communications module/stationary heater antenna or the communications module/stationary heater antenna splitter (with code B24 (Remote control for stationary heater)) to the service provider.
On vehicles with code 357 (Map navigation), the multimedia connection unit (A90/5) is switched between the USB (universal serial bus) connection of the telematics services communications module and the head unit.
Tasks of the telematics services communications module with CODE B57 (COM MODULE battery level))
The telematics services communications module has e.g. the following tasks in realizing specific telematics services via the "Vehicle Homepage" for the electric vehicle (with code B57 (COM module battery level)):
- Transmits battery charge level and the expected charging duration
- Transfer of estimated range
- Transfer of the configuration and status of the pre-entry climate control
For this purpose, the telematics services communications module receives the following signals:
- Vehicle data (battery charge level, estimated charging duration and range) over the hybrid CAN (CAN-L) from the powertrain control unit (N127)
- Vehicle data (pre-entry climate control) from the climate control unit (N22/1) via the hybrid CAN from the powertrain control unit
- Control signals and vehicle data from the communications module/stationary heater antenna and also via the communications module/stationary heater antenna splitter (with code B24 (Remote control for stationary heater)).
The telematics services communications module sends remote data requests and control signals via the hybrid CAN to the powertrain control unit.
Tasks of the telematics services communications module with CODE 350 (eCall Europe emergency call system)
In the emergency call system (with CODE 350 (eCall Europe emergency call system)), the telematics services communications module has the following tasks:
- Self-diagnosis
- Prioritization of the services in the internal arithmetic unit
- Establishing a voice connection or data link to the service provider via the communications module/stationary heater antenna and also via the communications module/stationary heater antenna splitter (with code B24 (Remote control for stationary heater)) (input and output)
- Transmission of a muting signal to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code 810 (Sound system)), or the head unit (except code 810 (Sound system)) (output)
- Reception of microphone signals when using the hands-free system from the head unit (input)
- Receiving and transmitting of control, status and check signals from and to the SOS button (N70s11) (input and output)
- Sending of audio signals in hands-free mode to the center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
- Reception of GPS data (global navigation system) for position finding from the GPS antenna (A2/23) (with code 520 (Audio 20 USB)) (input)
- CAN communication (CAN D) with the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) via the diagnostic CAN
In the emergency call system (with CODE 350 (eCall Europe emergency call system)), the telematics services communications module can receive the following CAN signals via the electronic ignition lock control unit, for example:
- Status of "circuit 15" from electronic ignition lock control unit as trigger signal for self-diagnosis of emergency call system
- Cyclic standby signal ("vital sign") of the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10) as a check signal
- Crash signal from supplemental restraint system control unit as trigger signal for the automatic emergency call
- "Central locking emergency opening" signal from the front SAM control unit (N10/6) as a redundant trigger signal for the automatic emergency call
- Control signal of the SOS button from the front SAM control unit (manual emergency call)
- Control signals of the button groups on the multifunction steering wheel from the instrument cluster (A1) (e.g. volume control, muting, establish or disconnect connection)
- Control signals from the touchpad (A105) (up to 31.05.2015 with code 522 (Audio 20 radio), with code 531 (COMAND APS); as of 01.06.2015 with code 448 (Touchpad)), or from the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Signals of the steering wheel angle sensor (N49) from the steering column tube module control unit (N80), for position finding
- Wheel speed signals from the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4), for position finding
- Position data from the head unit (with code 522 (Audio 20 radio), or with code 531 (COMAND APS)), for position finding
In the emergency call system (with CODE 350 (eCall Europe emergency call system)), the telematics services communications module can transmit the following CAN signals, for example:
- Actuation of the light-emitting diode in the SOS button to the front SAM control unit (for status indication)
- Check signal for the SOS button to the front SAM control unit (for the emergency call system self-diagnosis)
- Display messages for showing on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) to the head unit
Tasks of the telematics services communications module with CODE 06U (Mercedes connect me basic services), or with CODE 05U (Remote Online)
The telematics services communications module with CODE 06U (Mercedes connect me basic services), or with CODE 05U (Remote On-line) has the following tasks:
- Establishing a voice connection or data link to the service provider via the communications module/stationary heater antenna and also via the communications module/stationary heater antenna splitter (with code B24 (Remote control for stationary heater)) (input and output)
- Transmission of a muting signal (Mute) to the sound system amplifier control unit (with code 810 (Sound system)), or to the head unit (except code 810 (Sound system)) (output)
- Reception of microphone signals when using the hands-free system from the head unit (input)
- Reception and transmitting of control, status and check signals from and to the breakdown assistance button (N70s12), and the MB-Info button (N70s13) (input and output)
- Sending audio signals in hands-free mode to the center instrument panel midrange speaker (output)
- Reception of GPS data for position finding from the GPS antenna (with code 520 (Audio 20 USB)) (input)
- CAN communication over the diagnostic CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit
The telematics services communications module with CODE 06U (Mercedes connect me basic services), or with CODE 05U (Remote Online), can receive, e.g. the following CAN signals over the electronic ignition lock control unit:
- Control signals of the button groups on the multifunction steering wheel from the instrument cluster (e.g. volume control, muting, establish or disconnect connection)
- Signals of the steering wheel angle sensor from the steering column tube module control unit, for position finding
- Wheel speed signals from the Electronic Stability Program control unit, for position finding
- Position data from the head unit (with code 522 (Audio 20 radio), or with code 531 (COMAND APS)), for position finding

- In vehicles up to 31.08.2014 the telematics services communications module does not have an antenna output for receiving GPS signals.
- On vehicles as of 01.09.2014 except code B54 (Live Traffic Information), the telematics services communications module does not have a USB connection to the head unit.
