Location 

The head unit is located behind the instrument panel cover in the center console.

Tasks 

The head unit has the following tasks:

Central controller unit for entertainment and communication systems integrated into vehicle 

The head unit controls the following functions:

The head unit also allows the adaptation of various vehicle settings. Adjustments can be made to the following systems:

Settings can be saved on a driver-to-driver basis in different user profiles. This makes it significantly easier for several drivers to use the vehicle.

Depending on the equipment installed, the head unit can save the settings of the following systems, among others, for each profile:

The following actions are available for User Profiles:

For the suggestions function, the head unit saves the usage behavior in the active user profile. If the suggestions function is used, the head unit offers the most likely navigation destinations, media sources, radio stations or contacts based on previously used functions.

The user can also temporarily (24 h) deactivate the analysis of usage habits or entirely erase usage behavior that has already been learned.

The head unit can save various vehicle settings as themes. Themes make it possible to save and retrieve vehicle and multimedia system settings for certain driving situations.

A Theme contains the settings of the following systems:

Integration of smart phones 

The head unit enables the integration of smart phones by supporting the following integration standards:

In order to be able to use smartphone applications, the smartphone must be connected to the front center console USB connector (X115/5) (with code 896 (Vehicle access and drive authorization through mobile phone), code 897 (Wireless mobile phone charging), or code 899 (Multifunction telephony)), or to USB connector 2 (A90/5x2) (except code 896 (Vehicle access and drive authorization through mobile phone), except code 897 (Wireless mobile phone charging), and except code 899 (Multifunction telephone)), and the integration standard selected through the "Connect" menu. If the "Automatic connection" setting has been selected, activation cannot take place via the menu.

If a smartphone is connected and the corresponding integration standard is activated, the head unit switches to a special operating mode, the "integration mode". The Audio/COMAND display shows the smartphone apps in integration mode. This is operated via the head unit control elements.

Only one mobile phone can be connected to the head unit via smartphone integration at any time. When smartphone integration is active with a smartphone, there are the following restrictions:

When using smartphone integration, an additional mobile phone can be used to make telephone calls via Bluetooth® in two phone mode.

During active smartphone integration, both the vehicle's voice control system (brief press), and the smartphone's voice control system (long press) may be called up using the voice control button.

IMPORTANT With the Android Auto integration standard, the head unit also automatically establishes, in addition to the connection via USB (Universal Serial Bus), a connection to the smartphone via Bluetooth®. Telephone signals are transferred via Bluetooth® with Android Auto.

Via the drive CAN, the head unit receives signals from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10), and from the powertrain control unit (N127) for the engine sound function (with code B63 (Sporty engine sound), and except code 810 (Sound system))

Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) 

The head unit communicates with the sound system amplifier control unit (with code 810 (Sound system)) via MOST

Direct line 

The head unit is equipped with the following direct connections:

Ethernet 

The head unit is connected by Ethernet to the diagnostic connector (X11/4).
